Dream symbols are personal and what it actually means depends on your own beliefs, however here are some possibilities.
This dream could mean that you are trying to stay "above" a situation, or that you don't want to deal with a situation that is "down" there. Perhaps there is something that you don't want to do that you are "looking down on" so to speak as you fly above it.
Flying to great heights can also be a way of avoiding what is down there (since you get upset because you don't want to go down).
It can also show your desire to "soar to great heights" in your life - such as with a successful career - and not wanting to be down where most people are (what are you goals in life).
Or the dream could simply be a remembrance of astral travel.
Just some ideas.

Are you in control of the flight?

Flying means, as others have noted, success, but also freedom. However, dreams are often mistaken for being prophetic, whereas they are not. They are most often a somewhat symbolic representation of our current situation which can help us make a better choice about the future. Your dream of flying may signify that you feel you have freedom and that you are successful. However, if you are not in control of the flight, then it may also mean that whatever it is you succeeded in was not thanks to you, but rather thanks to other people, or luck, and that your freedom might depend on those who made this success possible to you.

Your being afraid of being too high is again related to whether you have or have not the control over the flight. If you have control, it may mean that IRL you're afraid that what you've succeeded in is not proportional to the amount of joy or pride it gives you (that, in fact, you're too proud about it, to the point perhaps when you annoy other people). However, if you are not in control, then you are afraid that you enjoy the success which isn't entirely yours too much, i.e. you do not acknowledge enough the role others have played in this success.

The third aspect is returning to the ground. Are you going to crash or not? Again, are you in control or not? If you are going to crash then you feel that being overfull of joy is now going to bounce back and you might get hurt by something; something so bad, that it might even annull the effects of your success. If you aren't in control, then you feel someone might bring you "down to earth" about this success and tell you, perhaps, that you can't take all the credit for it (or that you were just lucky). If you are in control, then you are ready to acknowledge the role of others (or of luck) in this.

If you are in control, but you're still going to crash, then you weren't ready to cope with that kind of success in the first place, i.e. it was not your success to begin with and you may have snitched it away from someone. Or at least that's how you feel.

The fact that you don't want to go down yet, and still you're going down, tells me that, perhaps, you aren't in control. Am I correct?

Uhh. That's a bit of a jumble there, thanks to all the things that are missing in your description of the dream. But try to remember your dream and these crucial aspects I mention, and then follow (in this description) only the thread that corresponds to your dream.

I would say it means.. you are never satisfied with where you are, you always want to be somewhere else? I've also heard somewhere that flying in dreams is a good thing. Sometimes dreams dont mean anything its just your mind wandering around thinking about random things.

It means that you feel FREE ... and when you have to come down to ground, it means that you don't get to be as free any more, which is why you 'get upset.' EVERYONE dreams about flying ... because all of us feel 'free' at some time in our life, and that dream is our 'celebration of self' we have when we are sleeping.

I think it means that you want a normal and balanced life. You are afraid of becoming too successful or being too far away from your loved ones. Also you dont want a shabby life either.

Hope it helped. :-)
