I am shocked that anyone with a wife and 3 month old child would consider jeopardizing his life. What if Bush sends you to Iraq and you die? Think of your wife and more importantly your child and not your own selfish desires. Get a job and support your family and be there for them. I guess you can tell my answer is... this would be a very poor decision.

It's great that you want to serve your country, but you have different situation than you did only a few years ago.

How long can you handle being away from your wife and daughter? How long would you want your daughter to be without Dad? National Guard commitments used to mean staying in or near home, but now it's almost an automatic overseas deployment, for months or years at a time. You would probably miss your daughter's first steps and words.

Can you give back to your country and community, without asking your wife and child to live without you holding them every evening?

Look in your heart. Maybe your wife is supporting you because she is showing her love, but is not showing her inner feelings. Talk to her and ask for an honest response. You owe it to her and your little girl.

From One Vietnam Vet:

Young, married, one child.
Get a good education to improve this country for your children and those of the Men and Women who have fallen in this fiasco.
Don't confuse patriotism with the responsibilities you have already taken on.
Look into The volunteer program called "Service to America."
Go to Appalachia and help people survive poverty.
You can't choose to serve in Afganistan or Iraq.
Which war would you prefer to serve in.
I served my country. I don't want to knock the Military. But You young man have to LOOK before you leap. Both eyes wide open and then look at your wife and child.
I was one of the lucky one's. I came Back.

How does your wife feel? She should have at least 50% say in this decision. If you get sent off to Iraq she's suddenly at home alone raising a baby.

Serving your country is always a good thing.

Be aware though that with the current wars in all likelihood you will be deployed at least once for a considerable length of time depending on your MOS.

Id say you are. You're only really away for basic and AIT, unless you get deloyed somewhere. Go for it.

Yes, if you feel that way, you should.
