He keep on saying how its fake and false that it comes from scriptures. These Mormon guys(missionaries) have been coming to my house and they left me the book, so far i had two lessons with them, they are coming tomorrow, they are really nice people, and i enjoy learning about it. I just read the chapter about faith from Alma, they left me that chapter to read. It is awesome, i felt so good and relief after i read it, since i'm gay..... Anywho i won't burn the book, i will continue to learn and i still haven't told them i'm gay. I'll ignore you if you talk smack.

Hi Erik. Thanks for inviting me to answer your question. :-)

It is sad that people take a good thing (like faith in Jesus Christ) and turn it into a reason to close their minds to everything else. A common belief in modern Christians is that there is no truth other than what is in the Bible. It's seems silly to me that on the one hand a Christian can say, "All you have to do accept Jesus as your Saviour and then you're saved," and then condemn all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ... it is what led me to have faith in Him. It is what led me to believe that Jesus could save me from my sins. There is no logical consistency in the idea that a heartfelt, sincere Mormon/LDS is an exception to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

I have an idea that many people do not want to accept the Book of Mormon because in so doing they may have to accept some faults within themselves, and will feel the need to make an effort towards personal change.

I, too, absolutely love the book of Alma. My favourite chapters in the BOM are Alma 5 and Alma 32 (and my favourite verse is 1 Nephi 3:7). They have inspired me to keep faith in Jesus Christ for many years, when times got tough. A good seed will always bring forth good fruit (if you don't forget to nourish it) and that good seed certainly has brought forth abundant good fruit in my life.

God bless you, bro. Thanks once again for inviting me to respond.

A lot of Christians think that if it didn't come from the bible, it can't be the word of God. They use the scripture in Revelation that says you can't add to the book. They say that we have added to the bible, but as you have read, it isn't even the same book!

They say we aren't Christians because of our beliefs, but yet, they won't take time to learn about what we really believe. They decide to pick and choose what they hear, and use it to make us look bad instead of seeing what is good in not just our religion, but any other that isn't exactly the same as theirs.

I'm sure most of them have been told that our church is the work of the devil because we don't believe "X" doctrine. We can't possibly be true if we don't teach this one thing! Or that our doctrines aren't biblical. Yet, they refuse to learn anything about it to see if it's really biblical.

I'm not bashing them, or trying to make other religions mad, but the truth is that most of us are very closed minded to other religions. I'm like that sometimes, but I try not to be.

You do what you feel right about, and don't let others tell you what is right and what is wrong. You have to figure that out for yourself! Any religion you pick will be the one that you find the most truth in. That's what is most important. Enjoy the journey, and learn all you can along the way!!

Ignore The wackos...they are just bigots.
Yes you should tell the missionaries that you are gay..
Since like some other posters said here Most religions including the Mormons don't believe Homosexuality can be reconciled with our Heavenly Father's plan.
Muslim would stone you, Jews in the old testament times would have stoned you too and christianity has forbidden homosexuals in the church. So if you do want to be a mormon, you would have to have a complete change of lifestyle...not just tobacco, alcohol and hot drinks...if you ever used any of those but your sexuality as well.

Dont forget to tell them you are gay. Mormons are the kindest , most accepting and loving people of all the religions. I am sure the mishies will want gi give you a great big hug. The President of the Twelve apostles , Boyd Packer, just gave an inspiring talk on the many wonderful gay people throughout Mormondom, and the mighty impact they have had in his life.

what I wish everyone understood is that we are all trying to figure life out. I don't care what kind of wisdom you say you have - even believers are trying to figure life out. If the book of Mormon helps you have a better understanding of God -fine. I think we'll all be suprised when we die about what goes on in the afterlife. The fact is - even mormons don't agree with homosexuality and will try to talk you out of it. I don't have a stand on it as a personal issue although I believe it is a sin. If you continue to seek to understand and know God then you will and that's the simplicity of it. It has nothing to do with the greatest of human rational - it is a personal walk that each individual must take. Trust though - that even the person telling you all the hooplah about mormons or any other denomination of faith is probably acting out of concern based on their limited understanding.

He is probably afraid because it is different. Most people fear the unknown and assume the opinion of those around them or the opinion they expect people to hold. After reading the Book of Mormon several times, I have no clue why anyone would suggest to burn it. It teaches nothing more than the gospel of Christ. It teaches charity, hard work, faith, repentance, baptism as well as all other Christ like attributes. Furthermore, I have prayed and received a witness of its truth.

To skeptics it may be offensive, because it boldly declares the gospel of Christ and teaches that you must put forth work before you will receive a knowledge. This faith is how God works; however, those who are skeptics who are unwilling to put forth effort before receiving a witness are offended by such a concept. Yet anyone who is willing to put forth the small bit of effort will receive a witness of the gospel of Christ and the Book of Mormon through the happiness and peace that comes as they pray about it.

Matthew 5:10-- Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

So many religions have been "bashed" through the ages... If you think about it,...

Why did the Jewish leaders want Jesus dead?... His teachings threatened their status and power base.

Why did the Missouri mobs kill Joseph Smith and his brother?... His teachings threatened the status quo.

Why did the Romans try to kill off all the Christians?... Their beliefs and lifestyle were threatening their gods' status and the whole Roman way of life.

Why did the Spanish Inquisition even happen?... The king was afraid the Jewish converts weren't sincere... It was about controlling people's thoughts.... again.

Fear and doubt are pretty powerful motivators to destroy that which frightens us...

Yes, Mormonism teaches against homosexuality, I won't argue that. At the same time, burning one copy of the Book of Mormon won't change a whole lot of anything. God is the source of all truth... Ask Him what to do with the book.

One last thought... A story from my mission--

We were teaching a man who was a self-proclaimed doubter. He wasn't a naturally faith-filled person. He was well-read, having read the Bible, as well as writings from many bible scholars, archaeological findings, etc.

At one point in one of our discussions, he was bothered by the fact that we were so very confident in our beliefs, which he felt were contradicting what scholars had "found"... He asked my companion, "What- do you think you're smarter than all the bible scholars?"...

Her response was so wonderful!... "Yes, I do, because I have the gift of the Holy Ghost. He is with me 24/7, to guide me and teach me truth, straight from God- the source of all truth."

Moral- Learn how the Holy Ghost "speaks" to you, and follow it. As I've said before, when God speaks and man obeys, that man is NEVER wrong!

I think you need to pray about it and not listen to what somebody else thinks. Why do they think they are so smart or are more capable of discering good from evil than you are?

The answer is they aren't and we all have to make our own choices in this life. Instead of your friend telling you what's wrong with the Mormon Church, he should be telling you what's right about his. He probably can't, but you should give him the chance.

You should always go to the source of what you want to learn about though. Don't get it from a second hand source. If you want to learn about Mormonism, talk to Mormon missionaries. If you want to learn about Catholicism, talk to a Catholic.

First off, be honest, tell them you're gay. Second of all, don't burn the Book of Mormon. I have read it many times, and although I fell for it at first, I saw through it, but only you can make up your mind on weather or not you believe in something; not those telling you to burn it.

Many Christians haven't read the Book of Mormon but insist on telling the rest of us what's in there! Don't worry about what men tell you to do. Ask God what he would have you do. And I'm fairly certain you will get the same answer I did! Read on Brother!
Read on!!!
