It depends on how the procedure was performed but if it was done laparoscopically it may have been medically necessary. They shave any surrounding areas including your pubic region so that hair won't accidentally be transferred into the wound/incision and cause an infection.

I am sure that since you are a teenager, this is not very comforting but suffice it to say that it will grow back much quicker this time than it did for it to grow in the first place.

Well, for one, it will grow back.

It was shaved because you had surgery. The appendix is located in your lower right abdomen. In order for that area to to cleaned and disinfected properly, the hair needed to be shaved.

What is the big deal? Do you think it's gone forever?? It will grow back soon enough. You need to grow up. By the way, if you have to have abdominal surgery again, it will be shaved again. If you have surgery anywhere on your body at some point in the future, you can expect the area to be shaved. It's standard surgical practice. Get over it.

They needed to shave it so they could better disinfect the area around the incision. You don't really want to have a lot of germs climbing in through the surgery site. Don't worry, your pubic hair will grow back (probably before you get a girlfriend).

P.S. Girls probably don't get a big thrill out of shaving a guy's pubes, anyway.

OH my dear fellow, the hair will grow. But if they operate you with your pubic hair then you will run the risk of the wound getting septic and further complications. It is basic to shave of the hair in the near vicinity before operating on any location. Your hair will grow thicker and bushier. Then you can offer any choice to your girl friend.. What a problem???

I got a laugh out of the first answer.
But, I think they shaved it to keep the site they were working on free from germs.
It's better to avoid infection than to miss a few pubes.

They don't need your permission.

Being a minor, your parents are the ones who can give permission for you for medical procedures. As a minor, you cannot give or deny consent. Your parents agreed to the surgery, and anything medically necessary related to it.

Though luck, champ.

they didn't probably didn't ask you because you were under the age of 18 and your parents make health care decisions for you.

They were given permission to treat you, That is all they need. Once they have permission to treat they will do whatever they need to do to treat you correctly.
