I think it is better not to put in refrigerator, just put it in a bucket of ice. About an hour before serving. Make sure the ice and melting water covers all the wine, so it will be really chilled. Queen Bee

You should purchase a dedicated wine thermometer,
White Wine
The average temp of a refrigerator is 38°, so if you serve your Chardonnay right out of the fridge, chances are it is a bit too chilly. That chill will hold in many of the flavors that a White Wine has to offer. 50° is an ideal temp to serve your fuller bodied White Wines at. I leave mine out of the fridge for about 45 minutes at room temp before serving. Again you can be the judge of your own preference in serving temp. You may enjoy your Chardonnay very cold and refreshing right out of the fridge, and then let it warm up a bit as dinner progresses. 50° covers wines such as North American Chardonnay & Pinot Gris, sweeter German Whites, Sauternes, Aussie & Chilean Chardonnay, New Zealand Chardonnay, Chablis, and Northern Italian Whites. Going down in temp to 45° is nice for Sancerre, North American Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc & Riesling, Alsace, dry German Whites, Aussie & New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and White Bordeaux.

If it is properly sealed it shouldnt take on a taste. Try putting a baking soda box in your fridge. It absorbs food odors in the fridge.
A quick way to chill it is put it in a ice bath take about 15 min just rotate the bottle in the ice water. I am posting some temps for you to look at.
I love wine.

i store my wine, if not drinking immediately in my wine fridge at about 54 degress. i have more red, so it is slightly warmer in the fridge. When I am going to be serving the red, I stick it in the regular food fridge for about 20 - 30 minutes prior to opening. Then I open it and pour.
the wine should not be too cold. It has been said it most wine magazines, that americans drink their whites too cold and reds too warm.

Well, I worked in a Wine and Cheese shop for almost 10 years and I learned that chilling white wine kills some of the taste and I agree. I never chill white wine, especially Chardonnay. A Savignon Blanc or Riesling is okay to slightly chill, but NEVER Chardonnay. It takes out that great woody flavor.

If you don't finish a bottle, you need to store the remainder in a smaller bottle that is just large enough. If you leave it in the wine bottle, the wine reacts with the air in the bottle.

Depends on the white wine.I don't think you're sealing the undrunk wine correctly.Either finish the bottle or buy one of those corks, made of cork and metal, that you just push in to seal.If the wine has a screw cap,use it for cooking!!!

make sure you put the cork back in, if you store leftover wine in the fridge.
