If so, what kind of planet ruler would Mitt Romney make?

Paul: Oh, 'gods' of other planets? Thanks for the clarification. So, it's not lowly rulers, but 'gods'? Why WOULD any self-respecting Mormon settle for 'ruler'? Doesn't make sense...

Miranda J: Thanks for the info. I have acquaintances, who are Mormon, but I subscribe to never discussing religion when I'm socializing with religious people unless they bring it up. I'm curious: I note you quote the Judeo/Christian Bible in your response? I thought Mormons recognized the Book of Mormon as their religious source?

This is mostly an assumption as there are no direct instructions exactly how and who gets to become "exalted". I imagine some people will deserve it, others will be miffed they didn't make the cut, and the rest of us really won't care that much.

Some of us may become 'angels' called to preach the gospel in heaven, so there looks to be an eternity of knocking on doors ahead for some.

This whole doctrine isn't very well thought out or organized, and it doesn't seem very 'christian' in concept and execution. It's more like competing for the blue ribbon at the county fair.

If god can surreptitiously chose 'his people', shouldn't we be able to choose our 'god'?

Well think of all the other solar systems, when I was a mormon I thought that the planets near us would be the celestial and telestial and terrestial kingdom and the other solar systems would be given to the gods and their many wives, now I am christian, I am sure God wille explain it all when Jesus comes back again. They believe they get one a palnet with an earth and the God gets many wives.

I like what Miranda was trying to say...we are joint heirs with Christ. Some antimormons make up stories we get to rule of other planets etc....of course they never leave a source.

It isn't god with a capital G, it's gods with a small G. God is always going to be our God. That will never change. He will always be higher then us, and we will always worship and sustain Him as our creator.

This concept is biblical. In Romans 8:14-18 it says: 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

In John 10:34 it says: Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?- Notice the small G.
Also, in 1 Corinthians 8:5,6 it says: 5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

We believe that there may be and will be many resurrected beings who have become joint-heirs with Christ and can thus be called "gods," but they are not our Savior, our Creator, our Lord, and our God. To us, there is and always will be but one God, that Being who is properly called the "God of gods" (Deut. 10:17), the Almighty God, even Elohim, the Eternal Father. We will always worship and follow Him.

Here is a website that better explains this, along with other concepts that are hard for people to understand.

We beleive that we can become heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. What that entails, I don't know, and I don't really worry all that much about it.
