In answer to a religious questions someone actually answered that a nonbeliever can't read the bible and understand it! This person said that the Hebrew god would not allow a nonbeliever to understand the bible! How in the world is a thinking person to reach a decision to become a follower of this religion if the aforementioned statements are true?

The Hebrew god said nothing of the sort - that's just people putting words into the mouth of a deity - exactly as they do with Jesus. I think that if an Atheist were inclined to pick up a bible and read it, he/she would be able to understand it as well as any christian only the Atheist will be able to be objective enough to strip away the bull crap and see the bible for what it is - propaganda with a purpose.

AnyBody can read the Bible and Gain Wisdom and Knowledge.
You can even get Saved.

Now, on Deeper and Higher Levels of the Word of GOD, you just can't be a Beginner and Understand them.
But, it is AutoMatic Really. The Word of GOD will make the Simple---WISE!
The more you Read the More you'll Understand.

You have to get Saved and Filled with the Holy Spirit and Continue to Study the Word of GOD Diligently, to Really Understand the "Deep Things of GOD".
Just the Way it is.
Really!

Gods Word will not come back void. The Holy Spirit gives anyone who reads the Bible understanding.

Actually, everyone can read it, but without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, it is more prone to interpretation than to true knowledge of what God Himself actually meant throughout all the text. But many unbelievers, did read it, and asked the questions outloud, Is there a God? Are you there God? Are you listeninig?. And read, then they were touched. God sent His Holy Spirit to open their eyes... Otherwise it is kind of hard to realy know what it means if we don't have God's Spirit to teach us all things. So there it is, some unbelievers did read, were touched by the Holy Spirit, understood in their hearts and were saved!
God bless you

ur right it isnt true and i dont believe this garbage... im a christain Or i try to be and im a strong believer in god and it might actually be the other way around... he allows all an as he sees u reading he WANTS u to understand so that he can have a new believer. god is all about love, accptance, and winning ppl towards him... not secluding or descriminizing pple because of what the believe in or not..

The word of God is spiritually discerned. God doesn't disallow an unbeliever to understand the bible, the unbeliever, by virtue of his unbelief can't understand what is being said in the bible down in his spirit, which has not been regenerated by the blood of Jesus and is dead in sin.

Believing is understanding the bible. The world says when I see it I'll believe it. Faith says believing is seeing.

Jesus said "no one comes to Him unless the Father draws Him" (the term draw is a legal term used to describe someone being dragged into court)
You will not have the understanding that is available unless you first humble yourself before God as a sinner in need of a savior. He will then give you a heart that can truly understand His word.

You make good points. But remember, if you chose to accept a religion's teachings you are accepting only its teachings (and its god, if it has one).

You are not accepting everything said by every person who claimes to be an expert or member on that religion.

So I encourage you to not let one uninformed (misguided, poorly-trained, etc.) person keep you from doing your own search and due diligence.

"Don't let a hypocrite stand between you and your god - that means the hypocrite is closer to god than you are."

Good luck.

That is really funny. I've heard Muslims make that claim about the Koran -- in fact I think this idea is in the Koran -- but I've never heard this from a Christian.

I liked the answer above about the magic magnifying glass!

It sounds like a believer who doesn't understand the Bible themselves. Ignore them.
