Fasting for spiritual reasons?...as a prayer or offering?
My experience is to keep your motivation unselfish, set start and finish times, have support from your spiritual community, pray "as you go" constantly. Once you are over the "hump" of your stomach complaining for food, you will have many deep feelings and understandings of God's love for his children.

fasting is cleansing if done properly not for too long some fast a few days with plenty of water or juice and some have gone longer I would check with a family physician first. I once fasted for a week on just water and it was very nice till I started to feel a little weak towards the end .I was as healthy as an athlete at the time as a matter of fact I was an athlete and around eight teen at the time.
peace

5 day juice fast for health reasons. Hot vegetable broth helped, because juices, tea, and water just start tasting too sweet after a while.
Need to introduce fiber afterwards. You will have the runs for a little while. Yogurt will replace friendly bacteria in the colon.
Don't forget about the daily enemas.

I used to be Muslim so I would fast during Ramadan. However I find it easy to go without food and water the whole day; the tough part is going without a smoke. I have fainted at times because I would be chainsmoking with nothing in my stomach - and in the heat.

It is easy, it is a battle of the flesh and spirit
The mind will try to battle you at first, after you win you will find it easy and you will fill your spirit with the things of God
It is Wonderful!!!!!!!!
