my company kept delaying my commission payment, what does that mean?

i work in sales, my company normally pay us commission on the end of the month, but they kept delaying it, saying 'forgot' to process the payment etc, also recently there is a high staff turnover, our sales are down, do you think they are in bad financial position or they genuinlly forgot to pay our commission?

Time to bail. I worked for a place that did the same exact thing. I was a good friend with someone in accounting (always a good thing if you're in sales) and when I asked the same types of questions you're asking now, she gave me a knowing raised brow. That was a Thursday, I interviewed at a competitor on Saturday and was at my new job on Monday. A few months later the employees showed up for work and there were chains on the door. I moved quickly with my clients(and later other sales staff clients..the guys who were standing there holding their balls) and made a chunk of change out of the whole fiasco. Good luck :)

Depends on your business.. However, from your story, I'd be looking for a new job if that's the answer you get when you ask about your check.

I used to work sales and the only thing that would delay payment was getting the money from the finance company. If the customer didn't complete paperwork or the finance company was dragging their feet, we had to wait, but as soon as we got the money we were paid in a week.

whether they can, financially speaking, pay or are squeezed isn't the question. Management's job is to make sure they can and do pay on time as per agreement.

they've obviously failed. time to move on.
