It seems to be due to the fact that Americans seem to want more power! There is really no market in the USA for a 4 cylinder 10 passanger van.

let's take the average fat american 250# x 10 that is one ton and 500 pounds then add in a body frame drivetrain 6,500 pounds the total weight is 9,000 pounds 4.5 tons. Expecting that weight to accelerate to 70 miles an hour in less than 10 minutes? with a 2.0 liter four cyl engine A/C on? In America we use a vortec 5.7 liter V-8 engine 4 speed automatic transmission and Chevy Express Van or Ford Econoline Van that can hold 17 passengers and one driver front and rear air conditioning and still get 17 miles a gallon on the freeway. Whats the problem and it will merge onto the freeway with out people honking at you.

Because,a 10 passenger van with a 4 cylinder would be way under powered for driving in the U.S.

Basically because of the wieght, the would never be able to pass the strick emmissions we have here in the US. People drive much slower in the Carribien not like here, We rend to be speed freaks and can't seem to get enough power.
That's the problem Chrysler had when they first introduced the 4 cly mini van, they were expierencing, blown transmision,
head gasket problems, bad gas milege, people were loading the vans down so much the brakes, engines, clutches, and transmisions just couldn't take it, so the went to the V SIX and heavy duty trans.
Sincerely yours,

Duh,
I'm a chick, I know this....
1) there is no power in a 4 cyl (10 pass) van.
our highways are 65mph +
in Oklahoma its 75mph
[we, in the US like speed & balls....like in a V8] V8 is better fuel consumption.
2) A 4 cyl. would use so much more fuel to get it going- esp with added weight of 10 passengers. ruin the drive train...motor works harder on a 4 cyl then on a V8
3) The cost of gas...
4) the resale value would be ...uhhh NONE!!!
5) in a van that size, in the city you can't park a huge box size van.
your better off with a Mini cooper for city use,
each one holds 2 adults, so buy 5 of them!!!
are you smuggling illegal aliens?? why a 10 pass van? in the us the average family has 5 members!!
If you need to ask a question like this, maybe you should go to a American High School & learn something......
VALUABLE!!!!
just a thought!!!

1) Higher safety standards in US
2) Higher emissions standards in US
3) Zero demand in the US for 10 passenger vans with only a 4 cylinder engine (except you, apparently).
Seriously, how are you going to keep up in traffic with 10 passengers and cargo with a 4 banger?

The closest thing in the states is probably the Dodge Sprinter. It has a 5 cylinder diesel and will hold that many people either.
Another answerer hit on the head as far as why they are not here in the states:
-not enough power
-safety
-emissions
-no towing ability
-no demand

Different kind of 4 cyl. than what you are thinking. And, as always, the market determines it's availability. If enough folks want 'em, they will start selling them here.
