The human X and Y chromosomes (the two “sex” chromosomes) have been completely sequenced. Thanks to work carried out by labs all across the globe, we know that the X chromosome contains 153 million base pairs, and harbors a total of 1168 genes (see NCBI, 2004). The National Center for Biotechnology Information reports that the Y chromosome—which is much smaller—contains “only” 50 million base pairs, and is estimated to contain a mere 251 genes. Educational institutions such as Baylor University, the Max Planck Institute, the Sanger Institute, Washington University in St. Louis, and others have spent countless hours and millions of research dollars analyzing these unique chromosomes. As the data began to pour in, they allowed scientists to construct gene maps—using actual sequences from the Human Genome Project. And yet, neither the map for the X nor the Y chromosome contains any “gay gene.”

he argument goes like this: “Just as a person cannot help being black, female, or Asian, I cannot help being homosexual. We were all born this way, and as such we should be treated equally.” However, this argument fails to comprehend the true “civil rights” movements. The law already protects the civil rights of everyone—black, white, male, female, homosexual, or heterosexual. Homosexuals enjoy the same civil rights everyone else does. The contention arises when specific laws deprive all citizens of certain behaviors (e.g., sodomy, etc.). We should keep in mind that these laws are the same for all members of society. Because of certain deprivations, homosexuals feel as though “equal” rights have been taken away (i.e., marriage, tax breaks, etc.).

Actually sodomy laws prevents two consenting adults from doing what they want with each other. Sodomy is any act other than missionary. Yes, doggystyle is sodomy.

Besides that have they found the foot gene? We all have feet but yet there isn't one is there? See how inane your attempt at evidence is.

Science can only explain "how."

Only Religion can explain "why."

In the Christian bible, the Lord's Angels came to earth in human form -- in the flesh -- and commenced to fornicate with human females. Their offspring were giants who fornicated at will with any and everything that was willing or not.

This is the genesis of the flesh. DNA is the flesh. God created DNA. God created the Holy Spirit. We are of the Holy Spirit and of flesh. Without the flesh, there is no "sex" [gender].

As a Christian I focus less on judging the flesh and more on the salvation of the spirit.

Off the cost of Southern California several species of fish are exhibiting gender abnormalities caused by runoff of chemicals and sewage into the ocean. This runoff is the result of certain men's "choices". The genetic disruption causing the gender abnormalities in the fish has already begun to seriously diminish the fish population in this and other industrialised coastal areas around the globe. This phenomenon, coupled with overfishing to meet the demand of human overpopulation has been recently revealed to be the cause of the predicted extinction of all seafood sources within less than 50 years.

Jesus taught that if he gave a man a fish today, the man would again be hungry tomorrow. If he taught a man to fish, he would hunger no more. Jesus encourages us to be "fishers of men" and in doing so, our faith would never hunger for want of believers.

Just as a starving man would not turn away from a genetically sex deformed fish, neither should a believer turn away from a person "in the world" or "of the flesh" whether that person is genetically gay, gay by free will, or a womanizer... Whether that person is a prostitute, a thief, or a soldier "just doing my job."...

As one who does genetics research, I can assure you that the study you're talking about has very little validity to the argument you're presenting. There's NO WAY they searched through every one of those genes and tried them to see if each produced homosexual tendencies. Each gene has to be isolated and then put into animals. The animals have to grow up and demonstrate sexual behavior. Do you have any idea how long that would take? We isolate just ONE gene trying to determine what it does, how it works, etc and it has already taken us a few months just to get started.

In any case, it's pretty obvious that homosexuality has biological roots. You see it in nature all the time. Look it up in the news. Heck, watch Legally Blonde 2. I mean, there is some choice in the matter for humans, but it doesn't mean tendencies don't develop biologically.

I worked at a fortune 500 company, and they are pro everything, that is wrong with America today! They also employed several lesbians and gay men, and I noticed that these Happy people were the most unhappy people I have ever met, While they say they were indeed born gay or lesbian, they could not maintain a sense of belonging to society, despite all the benefits and rights the company gave them, one right they had if they were told by co-workers, that their lifestyle was wrong, the co-worked was terminated for harassment? I have found that homosexuals are happiest when they can make other lives miserable. Their relationships are based on selfih needs.

Judging by the answers so far, it looks like if you look hard enough, you can find an expert to back up any theory. What next? Pedophile genes? Drunk genes? I'm sure the experts are hard at work proving that. Wow, talk about faith. We're born male and female, end of story. Behavior doesn't change gender.

You obviously haven't studied biology or medicine.

ALL humans are conceived Females (Shiffery) and those with the male chromosome convert at week 6-7. Sometimes this conversion is INCOMPLETE (docuemented, I recently saw scientific journals about a GIRL who had a PENIS and a GUY who had a VAGINA).

It has been PROVEN by BRAIN scans that some people have their SEXUAL PREFENCE areas MISWIRED.

DOCUMENTED

While PRIMA FACIA this makes HOMOSEXUALITY a MEDICAL DEFECT like DOWNS and SAVANT and MENTAL RETARDATION, does GOD look down on the "retards" of the world.

Some say GOD MAKES THESE PEOPLE HAPPEN FOR A REASON

If Homosexuals are "functionally" miswired but "intellectually" sound that doesn't make them abomnations anymore than a DOWNS child or a RETARD or a SAVANT

If GOD opposes Homosexuals them we must ALSO wonder does GOD oppose RETARDS and DOWNS children!

Otherwise MAYBE GOD designed things this way to see what our CAPACITY for LOVE, TOLERANCE and UNDERSATANDING IS

My sister is in the medical research field and has kept abreast of the data on the HGP going on globally. As a Christian researcher, this paper is only one of the studies, there are multitudes which are deeper, but my sister who has read/ studies the Bible constantly, she says The Bible (cover to cover) views & states that homosexuality, lesbianism, pedophilia, & bestiality as sins of choice. A matter of personal preference, personal choice of an alternative sexual lifestyle, not inherent genetic predisposition. She has not been the least bit surprised that intense scientific study into HGP is validating God's declarations set down thousands of years ago in His Word.

"Researchers found that a tiny portion of the X chromosome appeared the same in a surpringly high proportion of gay brothers. Hamer's team did not find a so-called gay gene, but found evidence to suggest such a thing existed. The results were printed in the journal Science in June, 1993, sparking headlines that ranged from seriousness to tabloid silliness."

There is some truth to homosexuality being genetic... researchers are still studying the possibilities. Remember, science is not static... it is always changing as more study is done and more information is gathered.

A more current article can be found here:

http://discovermagazine.com/2007/jun/born-gay

"This led him to compare the X chromosomes—which can be inherited only from the mother—in those same brothers. There he discovered a shared genetic marker, a patch of DNA called Xq28."

So they did find SOMETHING and they are continuing to study it.

Non sequitur.
You make it sound as if the human dna holds no more secrets for us, and every gene is accounted for and explained in purpose. They aren't.
It may be that there isn't a specific gene to "make" a person homosexual, but that doesn't (of course) mean that homosexuality can't be determined (as much as anything can when discounting all other factors) biologically.

Homosexuality is indeed an innate trait, but it probably depends on a multiplicity of genes, and not necessarily on genes in the sex chromosomes. Moreover, the sequencing reported above is only of one person, and other people's genetic traits can differ. Homsexuality exists in species other than h. sapiens.
