It would have a very high risk of some type of birth defects and/or mental problems.

Who cares about the birth defects? That's some serious mental & emotional baggage to be born into.

It has long been proven by the practice of breeding dogs incestually, that many many possible outcomes for genetic health issues become more prevalent in smaller populations due to the inbreeding.

Does this mean that the baby of an incestuous relationship will automatically be deformed or obviously mentally impaired?
Maybe, maybe not.... but the odds are not in this child's favor, either genetically or environmentally.

Nature via Nurture = Totally messed up in this case!

There is an increased chance of birth defect. The reason being we have all our genes in pairs (one from each parent). Now, if you get a defective gene from mom, let's say, then your body will use dad's non defective gene.

However if mom and dad are related, it's possible that both have at least one defective gene in the same place. This means that if they both pass on their defective gene to their offspring, then that child _will_ have that defect, because they wont have a good version to use instead.

In early biblical times it was probably OK. But as time went on and people multiplied each group of people acquired different diseases. People became more different as time passed. Now days when people reproduce with close family members then the chances of those defects and diseases increase dramatically. If you was to have a child with someone that was not kin to you your child would have a better chance of not having some diseases and defects that already exist in your family. The diseases are laying dormant right now so it would not be wise to try it.

Recessive genes that cause defects are rare, but they do run in families. If you have a child with a stranger, the chance of a defect might be 1 in 10,000. If you have a child with immediate family, the same defect might have under a 1 in 5 chance of happening.

Chances are that the baby would have one or many birth defects. This has to do with recessive genes that your family might posses but not show because someones dominate gene will "cover up". Your family will not have a gene to cover it up and the kid will show the birth defect. You should learn this in a high school biology class.

It's called incest and yes there is a chance that a child born from very closely related DNA can have birth defects. Here is a link for a very informative article about incest and giving birth to a incesterial child. Very intresting.

Number one, they would be arrested. Incest between anything before 2nd cousins is illegal in most states.
And two, yes, they would eventually pick up birth defects. Say you're a Turner Syndrome Patient (tt) and your mom is a Turner Syndrome Patient (tt). Here's the Mendelean scale:

t t
t t
t t
tt

100% (almost) chance of having Turner syndrome. That's just a hypothetical though.

The chances of birth defect are higher, but won't necesarily happen. Most people think that if people commit incest the baby will be messed up no matter what. But that isn't true. People who commit incest can have very normal babies who live healthy normal lives. But incest is gross and is illegal in most states.

There is a father and a daughter who live together as a "couple" in Berkey, Ohio. They have elementary school aged children together, all of whom are a little "slow" compared to the other kids their age. (Whether that's a coincidence or directly attributed to the fact that their parents are father/daughter, who knows? I still think its creepy though.)
