Buddhism and Tarot cards and sin do not compute

2007-07-06 16:20:26 · answer #1 · answered by Don W 6 · 1 0

I don't know if its a sin. The word sin implies Christianity and Christ wants his people to turn to him for answers so tarot is counter productive to Christianity's core relationship with Christ.

Tarot is tricky at its best. Absolutely deceptive at its worst and over time it always gets worse.

Buddhism teaches that your answers are within you, not in tarot. Buddhists don't believe in sin. Buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion in that it does not profess a God. tarot doesn't fit into it because Buddhists are concerned with the present moment, not the future.

Christians are warned by Christ to deal with only the day at hand and so tarot has no place in our lives either.

In Buddhism, there are no "sins", also no right or wrong. All things simply "are".

A tree is not a good tree or a bad tree. It is simply a tree.
It is not a good dog or a bad dog, it is just a dog that does what that particular dog does. Etc., etc., etc.

It is one's subjective view and one's re-action to existence that makes things appear as good or bad.

Tarot cards are not a sin (for the reasons already explained above). They are simply a deck of decorated cards, the order of which will change with each shuffling of the deck. They do not tell the future which can be proven by asking the same question ten times in a row, shuffing the deck well each time prior to laying out the cards. The pattern of the cards will be different each time.

One creates his/her own future by his/her choices, which are made either consciously or unconsciously. Regardless of how one makes one's choices, one must then live with the consequences and responsibility for the same. This is karma. It is also called 'one's fate". Again, you create such for yourself.

may it all be well with you.

I am not a buddhist...
I was baptized into a catholic church, but, i am looking for a cute little statue of Buddah, and I do use tarot cards. I totally belive in them. And if they are a sin, well, i guess i'm screwed.

Although not a buddhist, have read and studied buddhism.

Regarding the tarot: No, it is not a sin to use Tarot cards. Tarot is a tool of divination. Divination tools aid you in connecting to the Divine Source.

1- I am not a buddhist but I understand basic buddhism philosophy.

2-If you are a Christian, it is considered soothsaying and so, yes, a "sin".

3-I am a Wiccan. I use Tarot cards all the time.

Blessed be.

I qualify as Buddhist.

"Sin" isn't a very Buddhist term. It's not really the Buddhist outlook on things. For most Buddhists, it just comes down to whether or not things we do perpetuate our unappreciative, incomplete understanding of things, or whether they help us get in touch with how things matter-of-factly are.

So, it matters more how we do things than so much what we do.

In more tradtional Buddhist terms: any ego-centric actions generated with either greedy or hateful intent has an unhealthy effect on us (karmic).
