I've actually heard this asked before some where. I think it's kind of a chicken and egg question. Whether you believe the Adam and Eve story is actual history or a metaphor, you have to wonder if any of the firstborn mammals of the earth had belly buttons, those that usually have them.

They were born of flesh. They were primates, and biologically evolved from earlier primates. We know this from abundant and incontrovertible evidence. They were however created as human beings, in God's image and likeness, when God breathed into them an immortal soul, free will and moral capacity. This is what the Bible tells us. God formed the body of Adam from inorganic matter ("the dust of the earth") by an undescribed process, and then once the biological man was fully formed, God made the creature human, thereby creating man. The creation of man in God's image and likeness obviously had nothing to do with the biological structure of man since God has no biological structure.

There is a book in the catholic Church that answers these questions.NUNS get this one all the time. The Catholic church explains that the story in Genesis is a story that explains certain religious truths about the nature of the human soul and our relationship with God. IT should not be taken as more than a story. A very very good one if you read it with a mind and not as a child who would of course miss the point and take it literally.

They more than likely did NOT have belly buttons since Adam was formed from dust and Eve was taken from one of his ribs.

No one Knows for Sure
If GOD, during the CORPORAL times, had one, that he built it in as HIS OWN IMAGE
If not, then he didn't and there were none untll the first children were born.

uh if you realized the story is a fictional tool of literature to explain the woes of the world In light of "Gods " way, to people in uneducated times as well as bolster the power of the religious infrastructure for the security and benefit of those concerned;you should be able to put it in a less silly perspective.

I doubt they were flesh until after the fall. They were in spirit bodies. Just my theory. You should hear the one I have about baptism.
