My cats do it also. The worst was when they brought a rat in the house and brought it to me in bed. I find parts of lizards all around the back yard. Nothing you can do about it. My neighbors love my cats though because we have had a tremendous reduction in rats, mice, possums and squires in the gardens. Its just what cats do, that's why they were domesticated in the first place. Archaeologist think that cats where domesticated before dogs just to keep the rats out of the grain. Neat huh

Your cat is not some sadistic killer. Cats are natural carnivorous predators. It kills small animals and brings it into the house because that is his territory. He seems to be "showing off" his kills because that is an acomplishment to him. Some say that leaving a dead animal in display is a sign of respect to you. Most of the animals he is killing are probably nowhere near the threat of extinction. However, there is a huge cat over population problem and if there are a lot of cats in your area they could be challenging hunting for wild predators.
You cannot eliminate something that comes so natural to a cat.
The best and most guarantee way to prevent killing is to not let your cat outside. If this is not possible put a bell on your cats collar. It can greatly reduce your cats prey catches. Remove bird houses and bird feeders.

Keep them well fed and don't piss them off? Sorry, couldn't help it- Seriously, That's what cats do! They are just smaller versions of the King of the jungle-they are bringing food back to the den and for you. When you play with cats, like dragging an object and then they pounce on it-you are helping them hone their hunting instincts, that's why they play the way they do-
And don't forget to keep them well fed!
To keep them indoors, get them toys, a tall climbing or scratching post and let them meow all they want. They will manipulate you like a child cries- if the make enough noise, they think you will give in so just don't give in and give up. they are much safer inside, less parasites like fleas you have to deal with, and they live longer as indoor cats. This also lessons the chance of them catching disease from other cats or their prey.

I don't find it amusing that your cat is "thinning out the local wildlife". This cat needs to be kept INSIDE - both for the protection of the wildlife and for it's own protection. Here's an article you should read as you obviously have no clue to the dangers an outdoor cat faces - http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=indoorsoroutdoors So what if the cat meows continously? It'll eventually learn it's not going back out. Would you prefer not to hear the meow since your cat is dead on the street/eaten by a coyote/poisoned by antifreeze/or bleeding to death after being mauled by a dog?

your cats aren't sadistic; animals don't kill for fun. They were trained to kill by their mother. I had one that did that. She turned her nose up at the clean, healthy meals I'd give her and go out and catch something and bring it back to me, thern eat it in front of me. I went ballistic, but there's nothing you can do. That's the way they are and nothing will change that. My other cat couldn't kill to save her life, because she doesn't know how. She'd play with a mouse if she found one, then get bored and walk away. I was always cleaning up half-eaten corpses or bloody body parts. My heart goes out to you. I understand completely. All cats hunt by instinct, but they have to be taught to kill.

Your kitty is simply acting on instinct. You can take the primal hunter out of the jungle and make him eat tender vittles, but you can't make him into a cuddly cartoon stuffed toy no matter what you do.
Would you try to keep a bird from singing?

well, that's a normal behaviour from cats as they r always requesting opening the closed doors whatever it is (i experience that),even 1 of my cats before jumped from the balcony before and we didn't know that until we found his leg broken....so lock them up in the house as long as there's their litter box ,their food and water and milk and a wide space to play in....i suggest u should get a small ball for them or a small toy ,they love playing with these things and it is an alternative for killing birds and mice etc.believe me it will succeed!!i tried it after a terrible experience!!!!!!!!best wishes!!!

This is normal for cats. That's just how they are. The only thing you can do is restrict them to staying inside. Ignore their their requests to go outside. Eventually they will give up.
My cat will kill what ever she can find. You have to respect an animal, other than humans, who kills just for fun of it.

It's nothing you can do. It's all pure animal instinct for your kitty cats to hunt stuff. My kitty hunts all sorts of stuff, killing birds is natural for my cat. Yes, cats are so cute, it's like they literally get away for murder.

congratulate your cats for being cats. That's what cats do. You just have to be careful to have them dewormed at the end of the summer. My snugglebunny is an accomplished hunter, but he is so gentle that the birds fly out of his mouth and right out the door.
