I'm going to New York on July 17th with my high school and I just wanted to know what overall to expect.

* How much will I most likely spend on lunch. We're not going anywhere fancy for lunch. [[Our Breakfast and Dinner is Included in Our Travel Plan]]
~ Where is the best place to buy souvenirs?
* Also do you have any tips for when we go to China Town. I really want to buy some purses. How much do prices range in. And is there like one vendor that has the best deals and products?
~ What Is Little Italy like?
* And is New York dirty like with rats on the street?

Thanks just answer what you can.

Hey ok I accually live in NY now (5th AVE. Is a famous place, im only a block away :) anyway on lunch expect for something good/descent go to a deli or something so say around $7.00, also try to suggest to the person your in a group with to buy water where you live now because a bottle of water in Manhattan is anywhere from $2.50 to 5.99. Also always bring snacks because the vendors are not always clean ( you can tell by just looking at them) but most of them are clean. Souvenirs I say go on 5th Ave because there are plenty of souvenirs there for you and if not there, there are little store scattered throughout the city with NYPD OR NYC tee-shirts, ect. Ok now China Town--pay attention. Usually the guys/girls with the bags are the with kinda like tarps and garbage bags(they look homeless). Always say, "i want to see the good stuff" also remember to negotiate because they will give you a high price but you can knock it down. ALSO WHEN YOU GO INTO A BAG STORE AND THEY SAY GO TO THEIR VAN OR WHEN YOUR ON THE STREET AND SOMEONE SAYS THEY HAVE BAGS IN THEIR VAN STAY FAR AWAY! IT IS DANGEROUS AND THEY ARE TRYING TO SCAM YOU. NEVER GO TO AN UPSTAIRS OF A PLACE, THAT TO IS DANGEROUS. just use your head, people will try to scam you. remember to say with many people and in Chinatown NEVER get split up. Little Italy is nice but it is mostly resteraunts and souvineer shops ect. Good shopping is done on Madison Ave, 5th Ave, South Street Sea Port, and Chinatown. New York is a bit dirty but also it is a city so it is kinda nasty but not bad and there are people who clean the garbage so if you do your part to keep it clean it stays nice. Also there are no rats on the street, but it is possible cause there can be rats anywhere even where you live. Overall New York is a BEAUTIFUL city and if you handle yourself well you will have a great time. Also never act goofy or point or you will get some nasty looks. For fun go to the South Street Seaport at night to see the sun set, its beautiful. Central Park is nice this time of year because there are sometimes concerts (Jazz) (nothing that great but its something to do). Anyway have a great trip, follow my tips and it will be amazing. Also so you don't look dumb don't act like such a tourist because us NYer's don't walk around with cameras around our necks. But remember take lots of Pics! Enjoy your trip

I don't know that much about New York, although I should since I'm planning on moving there someday.
Its not that dirty...I haven't seen any rats. (gross)
I don't think lunch will be that expensive and vendors are always fun to buy suveniors. However there are tons of giftshops.
Can't say much about Chinatown. I've never been there.

Hope I helped a bit!

Go to a bookstore, look in the travel section for a book about New York City. If you can't find one, ask a store employee to help.

Be very careful, undercover cops are all over Chinatown looking for people buying fake purses.

Thousands were confiscated recently in Chinatown.

You don't want to be down there when the cops swoop down on the area.
