Yes it is now. My mom started there about 40 years ago as a temp and after Christmas they hired her. My brother was hired the summer before. Back then you took a civil service test and then were hired or worked as a temp until they had an opening. Mom stayed 20 years and got 5 weeks vacation and good benefits. Later while she worked there they stopped hiring people and only took temps. If a temp missed a day they lost the job, they got no vacations or holidays and might work years as a temp.
You can apply but I wouldn't count on a great job.

There are postal jobs available, but what is harder is taking the test. There is a book that they give for you to study to answer the questions, but you have to score high to obtain the job. One factor is that the Post office considers veterns first for the job. But still the test is a main factor.
