I often hear Christians refer to homosexuality as the "crime against nature" or the "sin against nature." Even moreso, it's a sin of choice.
But animals can be homos/bi too. Hmm, that's strange. Animals can't sin, and they do not have the consciousness to make deviant "lifestyle choices".
In the approximately 1,000 to 3,000 species whose behavior has been well researched and described in the literature, approximately 450 (15-45%) have been shown to have clear homosexual behaviors.
(read Biological Exhuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity, by Bruce Bagemihl, Ph.D)
So there's a problem here.
-Either humans are not sinning against nature, since nature is observably quite queer,
-homosexuals have no choice,
-or, if you really feel bold, as a last resort you can argue that animals can sin/make choices afterall... but then there's Bonobo Chimpanzees, for instance, 100% bisexual (http://www.blockbonobofoundation.org/), every single one chooses to be bisexual?

dze: many many many animals in the wild have been documented to be homosexual. no 'unnatural' environment at all. please see: http://www.livescience.com/animals/061116_homosexual_animals.html

JohnFromNC: wow, what a powerful rebuttal "yer argument is like lame dood!"
i'm merely pointing to a glaring contradiction in christian logic, based on their worldview, one which apparently you can't answer. why not answer the question (can animals sin? can animals choose? why are they homosexual if homosexual is "against NATURE") instead of weak ad hominem attacks.

Jon B: You don't know the first thing about my lifestyle.
Again, you fail miserably to answer the question. Can animals sin/choose? Why are animals homosexual if it's "against NATURE".

Meg M: A gay male couple would disagree with you. They would say their sexual positions fit just perfectly.
Straight couples have oral sex, is that a sin against nature, since it's not strict genital-to-genital contact?
Please.

Rina: And? A portion of the population can't procreate, therefore it's a sin? Seems like a rather nice population control if you ask me.

Also... "Almost a quarter of black swan families are parented by homosexual couples. Male couples sometimes mate with a female just to have a baby. Once she lays the egg, they chase her away, hatch the egg, and raise a family on their own."
Gay animals may not be able to procreate, but they can and do still RAISE a family regardless, just like gay humans.

"I'm merely pointing to a glaring contradiction in christian logic..."
Christian logic? Is that like military intelligence?
Anyway, my opinion - opinion, not some sort of a dogma - is that it's not against nature at all. The animals do it, the mammals do it, even the birds do it, so why wouldn't humans?
Oh and BTW, my compliments on eloquently asked question which was also perfectly supported with valid sources. I wish more were like this.

Our ability to reason is what separates us from the animals. The fact that we have a soul that is answerable to God separates us from the animals. To compare the sexual behavior of an animal of any kind to that of humans is foolishness. Animals are not homosexual, they are animals. They have no parameters. If they smell a female in heat, they will try to breed. Anywhere, anytime. They do not care where they are, who is watching, or anything else. They instinctively want to breed. Period. Defend homosexuality all you want. The Bible speaks on it. It is abomination. That applies today, just as it applied then. God does not change. He is the same today, tomorrow, and forever. Militant homosexuality. Soon, you will claim that animals do that, too.

It is considered against nature because it is obvious that the genitals of members of the same sex don't fit together. Nature has designed our bodies to fit together with someone of the opposite sex.
Animals also eat their young and engage in incest and adult-infant sexual relations. It is not a sin for them because, like you said, "they do not have the consciousness to make deviant 'lifestyle choices'."

The concept of sin is a religious invention. I agree many animals are bisexuals including the humans.

Animals only do what is in their nature. They CANT sin. Sinning is when you KNOW what is right and what is wrong and you UNDERSTAND the difference.
HUMANS are the ONLY living thing that has to make the CHOICE between RIGHT AND WRONG. Animals DONT have that choice. People CHOOSE to live a homosexual lifestyle.
Animals don't know anything about that. They just follow nature. But it is NOT HUMAN NATURE to mate with the SAME SEX. Animals may live with the same sex but they DO NOT and CANNOT mate and MULTIPLY with the SAME SEX.

bc, humans have the choice. animals do not. they are programmed to procreate to keep their species alive, and some animals are to dumb to know what is male or female, or even their species for that matter (that's why many people's dogs love pillows) they just do what their instincts tell them. people on the other hand know right from wrong and yet they still choose to do it.

Yes, and not random acts, actual homosexual orientation. I don't know, it wasn't long ago that nearly all Christians treated black people like trash, I gave up trying to reason with hateful people.

Your ignorance and desire to justify your filthy lifestyle have blinded you to the truth in God's word.
It is a sin against human nature. We are not animals. God has distingushed us from animals by giving us a soul. The 10 commandments were give to the people of this world, not the animals.
Chimpanzees, have also been known for ripping the testicles off each other and in some cases humans. Would this be OK for me to do to my neighbor?
You have free will and are not driven by instinct. It is your choice to live a lifestyle contrary to God. I will pray for your soul.
