You'll need to change the position of the litter box or block it so that your dog can't reach it. Though you may have tried to punish your dog for getting cat poop, it's most likely that your punishment was late and ineffective. Any punishment for anything after the event has happened is an ineffective punisher - dogs don't learn things this way. Instead, block his access to it. He was rewarded several times for going in there and he won't stop unless he can't reach it at all.
Emergency surgery to unblock your dog's intestines is much more expensive than a baby gate or other solution....!

All dogs do this. I'm not sure why they do, but mine do the same thing. I've got the litter box blocked off so that the cat's can still access it easily yet the dogs can't.

This is a very natural dog behavior. They will also eat dog poop, horse poop, rabbit poop, etc. Gross, but natural. You need to keep the litter box where the dog can't get to it, or she'll always try. She doesn't understand that she's not supposed to--for her it is fun.

my dog used to do this too. i just had to put to cat box on a shelf so he couldnt reach it. another option is getting a litter box with a lid and putting it in the corner with the opening facing the wall. the cat could get in and out but the dog couldnt.

Move the litter box where he can't get to it. Otherwise, he could end up being a very sick dog.

try placing it up on top of a end table type of stable box, kitty will jump into it, the doggie cannot, if that is workable for you. Also helps if you remove these tasty treats daily. You can also give your cat "forbid" or "deter" and even though kitty doesn't eat her own, it will impart the nasty taste into her doodie....

he need more mineral's in his diet , this is a bad habit, that you need to address, a rattle can mite work, every time he even goes near the cat litter, shake the can real loud, he will get the idea real fast ,or contact your near dog trainer ,
this is easy to stop , just takes two or three times
