I read an article that said if there are any signs of mites, go straight to invermectin because if following the dosage instructions no harm can come. What is your opinion on this??

If you are not experienced treating with ivermectin, I am not going to reccomend it. While treating with ivermectin correctly will not hurt your pig, it is very important that you understand and know 100% what you are doing. Skin scrapings will not confirm mites so do not put your pigs through that pain. If she is showing symptoms, do get her treated. You can do the research and find out how to treat her at home, be very very careful. Or you can have the vet do it. I treat my boys myself. But I spent a lot of time researching and figuring out dosages. I also asked for advice from knowledgable people on Guinea Lynx's forum. http://guinealynx.info
Overdoses of ivermectin can kill you pig. Make a wise decision.

Ivermectin can be toxic if not dosed correctly. I wouldn't give it to a guinea pig unless I had a confirmed diagnosis from a skin scrape at the vets. Then the vet can weigh the pig and tell you how much medication to give. There are other skin problems besides mites that pigs are prone to!

I work at an emergency animal hospital and I have seen disasterous results over and over again when people start playing doctor, especially when medications are involved. TAKE HER TO THE VET!
