My guinea pig munches on my hair. He always has plenty to eat. Maybe because my hair is light and looks like his hay, but either way he is messing up my do. Any tips?

I put my hair up. I have layers so most of my hair falls out. Oh Well, these are the sacrafices I make for my baby

None of my pigs do that. I would have to surmise that it can't be good for them to ingest human hair. I doubt its because your hair looks like hay. Its probably because he likes the texture of it. Mine like to eat my shirt buttons!

Since your hair won't stay up in a ponytail holder, I'd invest in some bobby pins or small clips to keep the stray, wispy hairs out of his mouth.

Good luck!

They need an unlimited amount of hay (Timothy, Orchard, Bluegrass) every day as well as fresh water every day. They also need a good fortfied pellet w/out all the crappy colored pieces in it. AND they need a good variety of vegetables. Some good vegetables are lettuces (no iceberg-it can cause diarrhea) like red lettuce, green leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce; green/red/yellow peppers, cilantro, cucumber, grape tomatoes, baby carrots, greens (like collard or mustard), parsley, celery (cut up into very small pieces), and apple (1-2x per day). I hope this helps. You can get more information from these sources Guinea Pig Cages and Guinea Lynx. Good luck!

I've read about guinea pigs doing that but they never chewed my hair, just my clothes.... When they do that, they are supposeably "grooming you", it also shows affection, and the guinea pig is trying to show he/she is the dominant guinea pig

My baby pig does that too. I think he is grooming you. He's showing affection. I wouldn't let him do that though. The shampoo and other products you use on your hair may be harmful.

Maybe he just likes the feeling of chewing on it. But don't let him do it anymore because ingesting the hair could probably kill him by causing him to choke on your hair. It can really mess with his stomach and make him inredibly sick. Even though you're spoiling your "baby", it's not good to spoil them if it could kill them.

i have dark brown hair, and my piggy still munches on my hair, so i dont think it's because yours looks like hay. put your hair up while you play with him.

I would tie your hair back so your guinea pig can't get to it!
