you should never give OTC wormers. they are all poisons & you can be treating for something the dog doesn't have & NOT treating for what it does.
sudden weight loss is always cause for concern & an immediate trip to the vet

I would DEFINITELY not medicate the animal until you get the diagnosis from the vet. Even if it is worms there's different types of worms and not all are killed by the same treatments. Plus whatever your dog has may become worse by giving it the wrong medicine. Please just get this dog to the vet.
PS: animals don't get skinny "all of a sudden". He's probably been losing weight for awhile and you're just noticing it.

Dont get worm medicine from a pet store whatever you do. You can buy a worm pill at the vet's over the counter for like $10. It's preventative and will kill anything that's there..
but still take him to the vet, just in case.

Don't buy that crap at the pet store. Get something from you're vet. Worms normally cause bloating, not getting skinny. Have your dogs eating habits changed lately? It could be a sign of something else.

Wormers are pesticides and especially over the counter wormers can be dangerous or lethal. I would never give any of my dogs chemicals or pesticides they did not need. Just take a stool sample in to the vet and if the dog needs wormed, buy the wormer from the vet to be sure you are using a very safe product.

nah, it's best to take a stool sample in and have it tested then you know what you are treating the dog for.. You don't want to treat for tape worm to find out that she had something else.. It only makes sense to have a proper diagnosis then treat the problem.. Wait to see the vet.

A vet will usually give them a preventative wormer, so in experience with my animals, yes.
