I own two guinea pigs- one male, one female. I have supervised them when they are together to make sure they don't mate. However on occasion my sister has irresponsibly placed both guinea pigs in the same cage behind my back. Not many times but she has done it before. My female guinea pig, since the middle of May, has been noticeably fatter. She is in great shape though- I give her plenty of exercise and she is super fast. At first I thought she was just eating too much so I put her on a diet by cutting back on her pellets, but she hasn't lost weight, and recently it occured to me- could she be pregnant!? Because if she is, than I've been malnourshing her by putting her on a diet and she should be eating more, not less. I suppose I could take her to a vet to ask, but I just took my other one to the vet and it cost me a pretty penny- I was thinking there was maybe a cheaper way of finding out.

My female guinea pig is just a little over four months old, so while she's already old enough to get pregant, she is still physically growing and I don't think she's reached maximum size yet. This is what makes it even more difficult to determine. My male guinea pig is even younger and still pretty small, I bought him a month ago and he's still pretty small, although he is also capable of breeding.

It literally takes guinea pigs about 30 seconds to mate, so it could easily have happened when you weren't looking! It's a shame she's only 4 months old- a little young. It takes about 60 days before babies come and if she's noticably fatter she's prbably close. You may be able to see the babies moving inside her. The babies (I'll assume she is indeed pregnant) will be born fully functional- all cute and furry and ready to eat pellets (they are born with teeth) within hours of birth, although they will also nurse for a few weeks. Please find them good, responsible homes- and please either keep your pair separated or find a new home for one of them. If you keep the female, you might keep a female baby. How to tell??? Gently push on the lower tummy... if it's a boy, something will pop out- a girl, nada! Have fun- guinea pig babies are so sweet- I bred peruvians for a long time.

I have recently brought a guinea pig from a breeder, at the breeders place she was running around with other boys and she was old enough to be pregnant as well. I was/am worried about her being pregnant so I asked a question a while ago and got some really good answers...

Basically if they are pregnant they will get really big around the stomach area, their nipples (if you put them on their back, like you were going to do their nails, down the bottom, near the start of her hind legs are where her nipples are located) will swell and stick out at about the 7th week, and at about the 7-8th week you should be able to feel the babies moving.

Good Luck...I haven't been able to work out if mine is pregnant yet!!:)

Odds are, she is pregnant. You should NEVER put a male and female pig together, even for a minute while you watch. It takes literally a second to happen. You couldn't even seperate them if you saw it. It'd be over before you did.
Now you have a pregnant Baby guinea pig. Way to go. Another irresponsible owner putting a guinea pig at risk.

I hope everything goes ok and your female pig doesn't die giving birth. There is a high risk of that happening. Keep them seperate from now on all the time. Even while she is pregnant. She can get pregnant again within minutes of giving birth. Read http://guinealynx.info and www.cavyspirit.com for tips on pregnancy.

I hope this is a wake up call and never happens again.

If she is pregnant you will know they get huge and I am not kidding I bought ( unknown to me ) a pregnant guinea pig and she got so big. If she is and she looks big you can gently feel her tummy you should feel what seems like marbles or larger bumps if she is further along. Feed her normally maybe some nice treats and just wait if she is you should have babies soon> Guinea pigs are not very caring mothers from our point of view so do not worry if after birth she seem to be ignoring them as long as she nurses them every so often sorry this is so long Good Luck

feel her belly and see if it feels firm. you may be able to feel movement if she is far enough along. make sure to give her plenty of food and water and lots of fresh stuff to eat. if she hasn't been getting enough then the babies have been taking most of what she needs so it would be a good idea to see if you can get a vitamin supplement for her from the vet or pet store. if she was ever to get pregnant now is the best time. females that haven't been bred by the time they are eight months old have problems with delivery because their pelvis fuses together.
