Canberra gets snow occasionally in the hills around the city, Black Mountain has had it many times. If, however, you want reliable snow, drive south through Cooma to Jindabyne and then go to Thredbo, Charlotte Pass, Perisher or Smiggins.

Perisher Blue is datta' way! (Same as Thredbo)
Snowy Mountains are just a few hours south of Canberra so you can have a great day trip.
EDIT: To the guy that said Blue Cow. Blue Cow is a part of Perisher Blue that is only accessible by the Ski tube, with no accommodation up there it's hardly the easiest to get to.

Thredbo and Perisher Blue are probably the most favoured destinations. There are lots of different snow activities to participate in including skiing, snow boarding etc. and heaps of accommodation for every budget. There are many ways to get there. It isnt too long a drive by car but if you are hesitant like me to take your car to the snow then there are many bus packages often including extras once you get there. I have added a few websites including one for Murrays coaches if you want an easy way to get there. There seems to be quite a bit of snow up there at the moment so enjoy your snow holiday :)

Brindabella Ranges to the west of the city - about 40 minutes drive - have some snow most of the winter although there are no resorts or ski lifts there any more. Drive up the Mt Franklin Rd.

Closest resort would be Blue Cow, snow would be very close.

If youre talking about Canberra, Australia then the closest snowfall should be in the mountains New Zealand. Maybe in some mountains in Southern Australia.
