I got my degree in accounting, and just got a job in an accounting firm. I will be making $45,000, but will 40-50 hours a week. I am 22 and think that now my life is over and all i am going to do is work and have no fun in life anymore even though i make alot more money. I know my other friends did not go to college and work at fast food places but have fun all day and night, but now i think that those days are over for me. Is being 22 too young to start working your career already? Or will i still get have a life and have fun?

You are the winner, this people who work in a fast food places at 22 there are the losers.
The older you get your interest for fun will change, and become more expensive, so you are the lucky one , you be able to afford, and if at 22 you making 45000, by age 30 you be on a management position, making 6 fig. You know, how many people will change places with you?
You will have a good time, and you will have a beautiful life. Congratulation and Good Luck!

You got a great headstart here - career wise and financially!

Sure you can have fun. What are weekends forl? Plus, going out during the week isn't all out, just pace yourself.

So here's what I'm thinking: Take advantage of your vacation time, long weekends, etc and use it to travel. Set aside some $$$ for travel and fun. Very important.

But also start on your retirement planning. Yes, I know it's a trillion years away. But, the great thing is that if you start now you'll be all set very soon and you won't have anything to worry about. And start saving for a downpayment for an apartment/ townhouse. I wouldn't bother with a house at this stage. Because an apartment/ townhouse you can just lock up while you're off partying or traveling around Europe or wherever you'd like to go.

Basically, it's much more fun to have fun with money on your pocket and some security that more money is coming in. So while others work at fast food places, they might work the same amount of hours that you do, but don 't get paid as much.
So stay with it! Plus, because you started so young, you definitely should keep open the option of taking a year or so off at some point and go back to school to get a graduate degree (I'm assuming you don't have one yet at this stage).

Also, one last thing: maybe others have fun 24/7. But without $$$, like I said, there is an expiration date. They'll only be able to have limited fun. I mean, right now, fun might mean to go out for drinks. But in a few years fun might mean for you to buy a little (or big) boat and go out on the water on weekends. And you'll be able to afford it. You'll want to be in a position where you can move your fun target!

Good luck!

I'm 22, I've been married for 2 years and been a nurse for a year and a half. I have a 4 mth old baby boy, along with 2 cats and 2 dogs. I changed my work schedule to working nights so my husband would be with him at night and I could be with him during the day, he was born 2 months early and I wasn't comfortable with daycare. So with the prematurity we have had TONS of doctors appointments. My husband and I work really well together and share ALOT of the responsibilities. We don't do the whole "man's stuff" "woman's stuff" We work together to get it done so we can get rest! For the first little bit we took shifts watching our son, I'd be up with him for a 6 hours or so then he'd get up while i rested. But, the older he gets the easier it gets... so far! i know he will start running around and such but not being fed as often, not as many doctors appointments etc. will surely help! Good Luck!

45k to start is very good. Climb the ladder and work hard. You will always have time to have fun. Good companies like employee's that work hard and in return they reward you with raises and give you days off. The harder you work now the more you will enjoy life later. While your friends are having good times. You will be building a foundation not only for retirment but support if you have a family. I cannot stress how much you should live on a budget. Manage your money in a good way. You are off to a great start. I didn't start doing all this till I turned 29 but I did earn a BA and an MBA. Just work hard and you will have more fun than yoru friends.

Nick balance is important you have to make time for both fun and work. Your life is not over, better to start build capitol up while young, the quicker you start the sooner you will be retired. You got to sacrafice now, work this accounting gig for a few years and save up the capitol and then do your own thing.

learn how to trade stocks and retire by your 30 if you want, but everything requires sacrafice. I know what you are saying you want to live while your young.
Make the money now stack up a few 100k in the next 4 yrs and by the time your 26 you could be your own boss. Trading stocks in your underwear making more money then you ever thought possible. So i say no your not too young, in fact i started younger!

And i will tell you , life gets better each year.
Do this job for a few years make some bank, then do your own thing, You will never get filthy rich working for someone else. However this job will provide you some start up capitol to do whatever you want. So suck it up, go to that coal mine for the next few years and know theres a light at the end of tunnel. Remember focus on the dream and nothing comes without work. Once you accomplish this, you will have the rest of your life to kick it and have more fun then you can imagine. In the meantime, do fun things at night and on the weekends.

Take it from me! While your at it read some stock trading books and Rich dad poor Dad.

Fun is eternal,!

I started working in my electrical engineering career when I was 21. The work provided a challenge, learning experience and thus enjoyment. I do not regret it. Do you enjoy your work. This is a key factor. The money you make will help you to acquire the things that are important to you and go places you enjoy. Because of your commitment to get a career, you must be an intelligent and mature person. As with any job, you should take some time for yourself and still have time for your friends. Individuals I knew that did not get a career are still breaking their backs in low paying jobs.

You're 22 and done with college it is time to get a job and start your career. You're going to work - not dying!

You will still have plenty of fun, you'll just find different ways of doing it. Instead of a kegger, you can afford to go to a nice restaurant or take a short trip.

One piece of advice - LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS. Pay your self first and don't build up debt. Live off of 80% of your pay and save the rest - 10% to retirement and 10% in a cash emergency fund.

Good Luck

Enjoy!

No!
First. If you are creative, and like art, you should have gotten into an Arts college. You would be able to do what you love for your career. You would have fun too.
Second. BE glad you have a lot of money, because some people are able to do the same. If you think about it, and wouldn't mind quiting the career you have now, try going into a caeere you love and would make you happy, like having fun with it.
Like for the video game freaks. They make video games lol.
Photography, Web Design, Interior Design, etc.

Great going.

Days: 168 hrs per week (24 hrs/day/7 days)

Work: 50 hrs per week; maximum (10 hrs/day/5 days)

Sleep: 56 hrs per week (8 hrs/day/7 days)

Remaining time: 62 hrs per week (8.85 hrs; per day; 7 days per week for commuting, eating, fun and other activities)

You'll have a 'lot more fun; a lot longer time; with a lot more money than your friends' (start saving a minimum of 20% of your pay by setting up an automatic payroll deduction before you ever receive your first pay check.

Benefits: (1) you will not miss the money; (2) you will be well on your way to being a multi-millionaire very early.

Best of continued success.

That's a question that only you can answer. Maby the answer is to try to cut your hours back some if you can. You don't have to be all work and no play. You have a good steady job that pays good but at the same time you don't want to burd out. Don't work so long and hard that you don't have any time for you. Money is not everything. If you don't de careful one day you will look around you and say what? Look at all I missed out on, Why dadInot spend more time with my family/friends? Why dao't I have anyone in my life?...
