are hair removal creams really bad for your skin?

everyone tells me that hair removal creams are really bad for my skin, and i have no idea if they're right or not. help!!!!

whatever you do, dont go for veet or nair.
they smell like shitttt.
and waiting that "three minutes" is a hassle when you have to deal with that smell.

i wouldn't use them. They smell pretty bad. also the one I brought, i forgot the brand, it technically burned my hair and skin.
