Their son was one of four chosen to go this last year to lay a wreath at the resting place of the Unknown Soldier, so they are really into this and rightly proud of their son. There are Senators and Congress members coming to this ceremony. My husband works with the father, though we do not normally socialize with them.

My question is what would be an appropriate gift to give their son? Should we give money, and if so, how much? Any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated.

A card of congratulations is a good gift.

I usually present the Eagle Scout with a pocket watch with an Eagle on it. The twelve hours on the watch represent the 12 points of the Scout law.

You can get him something functional with an eagle on it such as a key chain.

You might ask his parents if there is a piece of camping equipment he needs.

Donate money to his Council in his name, and give him a card to let the family know.

The BSA has many recognition items at http://www.scoutstuff.org/BSASupply/SearchPage.aspx?page=LIST&free_text|=eagle%20scout&answers_per_page=15
but to be honest, the boy may not even use the items, or if it is a plaque or something, he will put it away and it will never be seen again. I do like the pen/pencil set, however I lost mine within six months.

A card is a must. A small framed picture of maybe an American flag with a eagle would be cool. Something patriotic. Wouldn't cost all that much and your husbands co-worker would appreciate it too

I would donate $25 - $50 to the council in which he is a member in his name.

Well, since this is a big accomplishment, $50-$200 would be a good gift. My family gives anyone who has a Bar Mitzvah $200.
