According to Mormons, black people are descendants of Cain in the Old Testament, and their skin turned black as a result of the mark of a curse that was therefore put on them.

Modern day aboriginals of the Western Hemisphere are referred to as Lamanites by Mormons. Mormons claim that they are descended from a group of Hebrews and Egyptians who crossed the Atlantic Ocean centuries ago. According to Mormon mythology, the Lamanites fought with a similar group called the Nephites, and again were given the mark of a curse in the form of dark skin, for alleged wickedness and corruption.

The lightest skinned people in the world possibly live in Sweden, sometimes referred to as 'Sexy Sweden'. To the extent that Miss Nude Stockhom's choices are a reflection of certain cultural values, how does she still get to be light skinned and blonde?

Mormons might be horrified at how white my complexion becomes in the winter. Fortunately, for them, the tan on my arms stays longer.

"From the wrath of the Northmen, O Lord, deliver us!"

- from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer; also attributed to Charles V of France

It is not like Miss Nude Stockholm's ancestors just started misbehaving.

I know that Governor Boggs speaks the truth. Maybe he should be running against General Romney.

I did not mean to suggest that Miss Nude Stockholm's ancestors necessarily were any worse than anybody else's. I just meant that I do not think they were any better.

There is nowhere in our doctrine that says that the mark that was put on Cain was black skin. It could have been, but that's just speculation.

The dark skin is mentioned as the mark of a general way of life; it is a Gypsy or Bedouin type of darkness, "black" and "white" being used in their Oriental sense (as in Egyptian), black and loathsome being contrasted to white and delightsome (2 Nephi 5:21-22). We are told that when "their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes" they shall become ... "a pure and delightsome people", and at the same time the Jews "shall also become a delightsome people" (2 Nephi 30:7). Darkness and filthiness go together as part of a way of life (Jacob 3:5,9); we never hear of the Lamanites becoming whiter, no matter how righteous they were, except when they adopted the Nephite way of life (3 Nephi 2:14-15), while the Lamanites could, by becoming more savage in their ways than their brother Lamanites, actually become darker, "a dark, filthy, and a loathsome people, beyond the description of that which ever hath been . . . among the Lamanites" (Mormon 5:15).- Jeff Lindsay's page on this subject.

I'm posting a link to this subject for you, so you can learn what it really means, and so you understand what the BoM is talking about.

What makes you think that we believe that God turns EVERYONE black who might be wicked or corrupt?

If you have read the Book of Mormon at all, you will see that there are times when teh Lamanites (dark skin) were righteouos, and teh Nephites ("white") were not. And yet, there's only one reference in the Book of Mormon that SOME of the Lamanites who were righteous were given "white" skin.

Why would anyone be "horrified" at how white or black or whatever someone is? You obviously don't know anything about us.

Some of your account is correct, but modern-day aboriginals of the Western Hemisphere are commonly called American Indians. Some of them are the descendants of Lamanites that had turned away from the Gospel of Jesus Christ whose skin had turned dark because of apostasy.

Not all American Indians originate from the Lamanites of Central, South, and North America. Other groups that became our American Indian had migrated over the Bering Stait during the ice age.

As for Miss Stockholm and her current activities I cannot speak. She is exercising her free agency, that great gift that God has given mankind.

But of course your question and narrative is a poor, veiled attempt to cast dispersions on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because we believe in the Book of Mormon. It is unfortunate that you haven't truly pondered the words in this book and come to know more about the Lamanites and why they turned as they did.

Tsk, tsk

The Mormons believe we all lived in Heaven with Heavenly Father, several Heavenly Mothers, and 20 Billion Heavenly Siblings before we were born here on Earth. Then there was a war. The good guys won and were born White. The bad guys lost and became demons. Those who were neutral or did not fight bravely were born with non-white skin. The bravest of the brave were born to Mormon families.

We all know that Romney must have been a "Valliant Warrior" in the "War in Heaven" during the "Pre-Existence". How else could he have been born "White and Delightsome" to an LDS family here on Earth? Heck, he was probably one of the Commanding Generals . Now , America needs a President with valuable military experience like that to get us through our war in Iraq. Could you please ask "The One and Only True Prophet", Gordon Hinkley, to please release those valuable records to the public? We need to know what battles he fought in. How many medals he won. How many of the "Less Valliant Soldiers" he recommended being born with black skin when they got their chance to be born on Earth. Was Al Sharpton one of THEM ? How about Jesse Jackson? Mormons, this is your chance to show the world the light of the everlasting gospel. Dont miss out. We have General Romney running for president of the USA and we need you badly right now!

I too, bear in mind the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ahead of that momentus day interior the summertime of 1978. The day the information broke, i became residing in southern Italy [no, no longer on a project]. We had a blended race couple who were taking the discussions. The spouse and her son from a prior marriage have been scheduled to be baptized - the husband became no longer yet waiting, partly via fact of his concerns approximately his step-son's [and any infants he and his sweetheart would have] lack of ability to be ordained to the priesthood. The missionaries arrived on the shore of the mediteranean with extensive smiles - sharing with us the stunning information. Like your adventure, many tears of delight have been shed with the help of those accumulated that day. maximum suitable desires

I am not a Mormon, so my opinions are not necessarily those of the church. You know yourself from reading 3 Nephi that if a black person repents, the skin turns white. It says nothing about a white person's skin turning black there.

Many speculate that the color mentioned isn't skin color, but it means a removal from God's presence. A person that isn't in His presence may leave you wanting to run just get away from them, or something like that. Black skin doesn't mean evil anymore than white skin means good. I mean, person that I know that is more religious than most that I know, is from Jamaica and she is most defiantly not a white person!

Not much different from what the psychologist Eysenck said about Black people - having smaller brains and therefore being intellectually inferior. Mormon view smells the same to me - racist.

I'm sure they have a reason. How else would they explain what they are wrong about to begin with when it comes to who is, and who is not black, or any other color, and why.
Personally, I wouldn't want to associate with a group that uses such bad reasoning as to why any group is a different color. Who made them judge of any thing? One also needs to consider the fact that the people of the Middle East are dark skinned. Since Jesus was a "Jew", and was most likely dark skinned, based on what you have described, what "sin" is He guilty of? Their reasoning is obviously flawed, and filled with beliefs that are a demonstration of ignorance, and judgment that should not be found in any group.
