I mean, isn't it virtually inevitable that science will eventually map the entire human genome, learn how to manipulate it and eventually engineer it, and thereby reduce human consciousness to nothing more than a chemical reaction dictated by a deoxyribonucleic code? Why don't we just cut to it?

I am free spirit. A free moral agent. No "science" or "chemical reaction" is ever going to dictate my life.

There is no "cutting to it" in science. Only evidence, research and data can offer explanations, unlike religion, which needs no other qualifications than a bit of hot air..
