I read recently an article by an astronomer who said that the date in question corresponds to an expected reversal of the sun's polarity. That is not perilous in itself, since that has happened many times before with some effects on life on earth, but my cataclysmic. He did reference, however, geological data that suggests that the earth also is due for another shift in polarity. According to this source, and I truly apologize for not being able to name the author -- especially since I did not read the full extensive report, for reasons I will state forthcoming -- the effect follows an approximate Y2K scenario, with some earth quakes and tidal waves thrown in.
We don't really know the factors that may have been involved in the termination of the Mayan calender, so far as I am aware. They may have gotten bored with the monotony of the affair, or perhaps a change in their economy caused a decrease in scientific spending. Who knows?
Like a lot of people, the End Time -- however one may define it -- is something to speculate, but not worry about. All things must end, or at least change. The prospect of impending death should be a motivator to everyone. To live without fear of one's doom is best.

The upper Mayan class ( the ones with most knowledge) disappears. That's a mystery. The Mayan prophecy about 2012 as of the more understanded people only marks a change. But what change would? Our mind could create any theory we could imagine on that. But anybody have think that what that means is they come back from the place where they are, where they go?. Some people said that they go to another dimension. Its possible?

The world will end when its good and ready. This will occur in approximately 7 billion from now. As for the human race... well, with all the insane stone age religious fighting going on, in addition to our 20th century weapons.. the human race (including all people of religious creeds) could be gone by 2012, i certainly hope so.

Sure, just as the world was supposed to end in 2000, and in 1998, and in 1975, 1941, 1914, 1843, 1496, 1000...

Only God knows when the world will end. Our calendar will go on to 12-22-12, but the Mayan stops there because they believed that some phenomenon would occurr at that date.
The end of the world? Maybe its the end of how we currently do things in this world.

No it wont end like poof we all dead. ( at least i sure hope not!) But I think that people will become more open and spiritual and that to a point, the old ways of thinking will be forever changed. Hence the end of the world. I cant whate!

No, for a very important reason. Why should you fear the calandar of an extinct group of people who were conquored? If their gods were right then they would've been still existing these days. Why fear something from people who aren't even around anymore.
