I picked her up from my friend who has them living OUTSIDE under her trailer...so she already had fleas and i tried giving her a bath so at least i TRIED right?but i didn't know advatage was that heap...i thought they were like 50 dollars or so...oh ok well thanks for everyone's help! And i buy her canned foods...i just didn't know it wasn't THAT expensive for advantage or frontline and i always thought they were for dogs...

Short answer -- no.

The flea products you csan buy in a grocery, feed, or pet store either don't work or are too strong for a kitten.

Advantage or Frontline, which you get from a vet, are very effective, last a month, and are safe if applied as directed. A dose costs $10-$12 but the vet may charge less because you use less on a kitten.

It may sound expensive, but it will kill the fleas and their eggs, and it won't kill your kitten. Most vets sell it without having to examine the cat.

The products they sell at stores are no good and can hurt your kitten or possibly kill it. You can go to the vet and get just one advantage they cost about 12.00 for one and since it's a kitten half should do it. But take the kitten to the vet yourself and explain the situation. Also your mom will have a fit because flea get into everything so vaccuum and wash all the blankets and areas the cat has been using fleas look like little specs of dirt and can be very hard to get rid of. And why won't your mom help you can you make a deal with her that you will do the dishes or mow the lawn or something as a trade off. Kittens also need to be dewormed and inoculated they need a good start in life to be healthy. I wish your mom would help. But do the best you can and if you can't do all of this then your going to have to make a tough decision or fiquire out a way that you can have all of these things completed for your cat. Good luck.

You might at least want to give the cat a bath.. Any soap will work- just let it sit for about 10 minutes to kill any fleas on your kitten.. Just be careful eyes/ears.... Also, your mom might have a fit if the house becomes infested... Then you will have to say good bye kittie... So, I suggest you vacuum often and put a drug store flea collar in the canister of the vacuum to kill any fleas that were vacuumed or throw the bag away after you vacuum everyday.. Just a suggestion: if you can't take care of the kittie on your own give it away to someone who can !!!

Hi,

We had a kitten with fleas. We tried everything on the market that we could think of - shampoos, lotions, some stuff you put on their shoulder blades, a fine comb, a flea collar...you name it. We probably spent a whopping $250+! And it did nothing. We even obsessively cleaned our apartment and everything in it. Did not help.

We finally bit the bullet and went to the vet. $100.00 later we had a treatment that worked like a charm.

Your mom will spend the cash when the little fleas are jumping around her legs and biting her. Just give it a week or so.

Good luck!

Yikes - nice mom! Does she realize that not only is the kitten is going to suffer from the fleas - but her selfish self will as well once the home becomes completely infested with them. They'll bite her, they'll get in her bed, they'll get in the sofa and totally infest the carpets - yummy!!!

As the adult - and hence, owner of this animal, by law she's the one that has to make sure this cat is properly taken care of. How about asking her nicely to buy some Advantage for the kitty and if she refuses call animal control and tell them you know of someone who refuses to care for their pet? :)

But, like others have said, perhaps the best thing is to give up this cat to someone who has the means to take care of it. Fleas are just the start. What if this kitten is injured or gets sick? Is she going to die simply because your mother refuses to care for it? Please don't let that happen.

the most effective way in a kitten is to bathe it over and over again until the fleas are drowned...you also have to pick off any flea eggs...you will need to be careful because the fleas are going to run to the ears and the eye area ...the ears need to be cleaned but no water should settle in them...you may need to give several baths before the fleas are all gone and use a gentle soap like Softsoap or baby shampoo and warm water not hot

A pet is a big responsibility and most kids can't afford to take care of them properly alone. It seems like you fall into this category. Unfortunately, your pet can not live on love alone. Fleas can become very serious and need to be treated. You also should feed your pet decent food, not the cheapest you can find, ESPECIALLY as a kitten. You need to take it to the vet at least once a year, and you need to get it fixed and vaccinated.

In short, you have a lot to learn, and you need to get a job, get your mom to pay, or give up the kitten to a better home. Maybe if you did all the chores (vacuum, take out the garbage, dust, clean your room, dust, rake the leaves, shovel the snow, etc,) your mom will give you money.

Even if you get the money, you should start reading about how to take care of your cat. good luck.

Well, you can give this a try, but be very careful to only bath the body- put 1 teaspoon of baking powder into a sink filled an inch deep, and bath the kitten with that.

Or make a soapnut solution, boil 5 soapnuts in about 2 litres of water, cool the water and then use it to bath kitty.

if your kitten is a minimum of 8 weeks previous, Frontline interior the stunning dosage is fairly secure. stay removed from Hatz, Sergeant's, or the different OTC flea therapy. those are risky on your kitten. if your kitten is below 4-7weeks previous, the vet grants you Capstar till it incredibly is the right age for Frontline.

My ex-roommate brought home a stray kitten INFESTED with fleas, she tried garlic powder and a flea comb. It took alot of patience and alot of time but it actually worked. She also kept the kitten away from carpeted areas so if the fleas fell on the tile floor they were easy to spot and kill.
