Using a toner for your skin has several benefits. First it removes any residue of soap or cleansers left on the skin or in your pores after cleaning your face and neck. It also helps to close and reduce the size of the pores. Some toners also contain glycerin or other ingredients that sooth and moisturize, especially after using a facial mask.
Be sure to choose a toner that is formulated for your skin type if you want the best results. For instance, if you have oily or acne prone skin, avoid products that contain ethyl alcohols and find one that has cucumber or witch hazel extract instead. There are several extracts and essential oils that have gentle astringent properties that are excellent for oily or acne prone skin types.
For dry or sensitive skin types, you should use Green Tea and/or Chamomile Extracts for a more gentle toner.
Hope this has helped a little with your question.

Actually, toner is to remove all the residue/dirt the cleanser missed, that way the moisturiser can sink into your skin and work better (as long as you're using the right moisturiser for your skin type it should not clog your pores) If you have a good cleanser sometimes you can get away with not using a toner. You should look for oil-free facial products. Take an organic greentea bag and soak it in water, put the water in an empty moisturiser bottle and chill it it the fridge and use it as a refreshing and natural toner.

toner helps to close your pores after cleaning your face. so if you put a lotion on your face it may be a good idea to put a toner on first so the lotion doesnt clog your pores.
