I can not say about how good prozac is for anxiety, but I have a daughter who takes it for depression. It honestly makes her act like a Robot. And really suppresses her memory. Somtimes I find it impossible to communicate with her. That is a very weird medication, I think. ( She is 48 and in recovery from alcohol.) Seems Like the lesser of two evils, I don't know?????Especially for Her.

Prozac is for depression there are other medications for Social Anxiety Disorder Paxil is one that is very good. But you need to see a psychiatrist for a correct diagnosis and the right medication that will help you. One medication may work for others but not for you only your psychiatrist can help. I see that others are thinking of SAD which is Seasonal Affective Disorder which a depression that affect people in the winter. It doesn't have anything to do with Social Anxiety Disorder which you are speaking of. There are specific medications for your disorder

I take Xanax in smaller doses and once they gave me Valium, but I like the Xanax much better. It doesn't make me loopy and I tend to get more things done than if I were on some other meds.
Also, talk to your doctor and explain what you are looking for in your meds. If functionality is important, tell him so. It is vital to me because I have three children.

No! The side effects can give the user worse anxiety than they had before they began treatment. The potential user should instead get therapy or try something else.
