You're confusing religion and politics. That's very common among your kind.

It has nothing at all do do with religion or the lack of religion.
It has everything to do with COMMUNISM, and the inherent corruption of China's communist leaders who have total control. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
To say that China is "officially atheist" is an innacurate (or at least misleading) statement. The communist government wants to be the sole source of power, so it attempts to control religion. However, Christianity has never played a large role in China.
Buddhism and Confucianism are common, however.
Your logic that religion somehow improves the human situation is flawed. Western Europe has a much higher percentage of Athiests and Agnostics and many fewer church going Christians than the United states. And yet, there is much lower crime, the poor have generally better care, etc.
And lets not forget the overly "religious" countries like Iran. Their belief in God hasn't exactly improved their lives or human rights.

Oh, so some crazy communist leader does something bad, and you blame all atheists? Atheists had no common moral system or anything of that sort, and no official belief tenant. So basically, you have no argument because you can't really link the actions of one atheist with another. The only common link between us is the lack of belief in god or religion. So whats your point?
Btw, there are many Christians in China- 130 million. So where are they and why aren't they responsible for the bad human rights record in China?

I only can judge myself. Am I perfect? Nope, not at all. Do I have morals, yes, I do. I have to say, I find what has happened in communist countries very disconcerting. Unlike the Bush Administration, I do not support the Chinese government. I do need to add that communists are not the only ones with bad human rights records. Look at Guatemala under Pat Robertson's boy, Efrain Rios Montt, an evangelical christian.

Are all Christians good people? No. Have Christians ever commited atrocities in the name of God? Yes. How can you lump all people who believe a certain way into one group and point your finger? Of course not all Chinese people are atheists. The GOVERNMENT is. Not all Chinese people are against basic human rights. The GOVERNMENT is. Have you never disagreed with your government?
And Grace, if Atheists changed their beliefs due to "society" and what the "majority" says, wouldn't all the "former Atheists" in America be Christian?

If you're going to blame atheism for Communism, then you have to blame THEISM for the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Salem Witch Trials, the oppressive theocracies of the middle east, and so on.
And you can't deny here they weren't theistic because they all explicitly expressed a belief in deity.

China's religious stance is not a political one. And if we've got some explaining to do for that unrelated thing - how about the crusades? The holocaust? The inquisition? Yeah, you're feeling pretty stupid right now, I hope.

you're attempting to allure to an unfair assessment. in basic terms because of the fact a central authority's respected stance is god does not exist does no longer mean they're absolute to be a liberty paradise. comparable is going with non secular international locations. seem on the middle east. they're Islamic Republics and function almost no freedoms.

No one said all atheists are perfect. China makes the mistake of forcing their beliefs on others. THAT is wrong.
However, their is a big difference here. Their is NOTHING in atheism that says we should behave immorally. Their is PLENTY in the Bible and Koran that lets people feel perfectly justified in committing the most horrible atrocities.

They do have a God/religion. It's the ideal of "group as whole"... the individual is meaningless, the state is everything. It's a very religious concept. In a way, it's a warping of Jesus's teachings that "we are all God and of God"...focusing on the totality of the human race as something to serve, at the sacrifice of individuality.

Because they're also Communist. Why did the Puritains kill any free thinker that could've advanced quality of life? Wy did the Catholics kill millions of innocent civilians in the Crucades? Christians you've got some explaining to do. And you can't deny here that they weren't Christian because they followed the bible and everybody knows that. So what do you have to say for yourself?
