Hmm. I love this question, for those who actually take the time to respond with something other than 'I would beat it out of them' Lovely sentiment really. This a is a hard one for me to answer because of who I am. I am a Gay Christian. Should make it easier, but it doesn't.

I look at my family, who I have yet to come out to, and wonder what their reactions would be as I was raised in a very religious home. Which is why I have not came out to them. It is not easy as the child, to turn to your family, who have these strong beliefs and say, "Hey, you know all that you taught me, well I didn't listen." For those of you that say that it is being raised up wrong, that is not true. We have always been very active in the church, I was a straight A student, graduated top of my class, etc. I have always had a close relationship with my savior. My sexuality was not something that I embraced because of the way I was raised. It took many years for me to be able to come to terms with it and my faith. I've done the research, I now know that the way I was taught was the way "Christians" twist God's word to fit them. As much as I love my God I know that there are those who uses his word against his children. I believe that everyone, regardless of age, sex, race, or sexual preference, is a child of God and therefore worth of his forgiveness, no matter what the sin.

I would be concerned for my children (I have 3) for the way people in the gay community are still viewed, all the bigotry and hatred. But I would welcome them with open arms. My love for my kids is unconditional, and their sexual preference would not change that one bit. I can only hope that when my time comes to tell my family, they will hold the same view.

I know that my child would understand my beliefs about homosexuality and also that, although I did not agree, I would accept they had made that choice. I would expect my child still be respectful and considerate of myself and those around him/her. But then I'd expect heterosexuals to be respectful and considerate as well. I make it very clear all sexual stuff is personal and should remain between the people involved not rubbed in the face of those around them.

I am Muslim. I'd neither be ashamed nor lecture. I'd love him or her just as I always had and for all time.

I would tell him why I disapprove of his orientation, and leave it at that. It's up to my child to live HIS or HER life the way HE or SHE wants, with my only my guidance. I would never disown him or her.

As a Christian I've been taught to "love the sinner and hate the sin". This is what I mean--I feel this is the most important time to love your child and be his/her means of support. As one who has studied the Bible on this matter, I have come to my own educated decision on the subject. I personally would have to explain that while I still love him or her that doesn't mean I agree with their decision.
