My roommate is a conditional release officer. Basically he is a juveline probation officer. Recently one of his kids pulled a gun and killed another youth who was on a bike and shot him 5 times in his back. I do not know why this happened, but the youth on the bike was killed.

My roommate said he was one of his good kids and did not know why he did this and he is in remorse for this kid and feels kind of responsible.

I told him that kids of today are like tigers who can turn and he needs to understand that it wasn't his fault. It made the news and though my roommate was not named, he feels very bad about it. I told him that he could only do his best for his youths that were on conditional release. He still feels bad about this, but I don't think he should. What do you think of such youths that commit such crimes and how it affects their probation officers?

We all like to think we have a positive effect. If we didn't we would have no reason to show up to work
.
Lets face it, our greatest accomplishments as humans is to have an affect and for most in the working world its a positive affect we are working to attain.

I work in animal control, I love animals but everyday I see the cruelty, the neglect, the disregard for life. I go to work everyday because I know once they are here they are mine (not legally) but I am now able to provide and care for the animals that come into my shelter. I am now the guardian or the sentinel so to speak. I get what your friend is going through and this is the primary reason the turn-over rate for this kind of job is so high.

Remind him to focus on the success.

I'm sorry, but I do not feel for this guy, just like he should feel no guilt for this punk kid murderer. Having that job, he needs much thicker skin than he apparently has. People die, people you are responsible for. Hes no super hero and can't save the world.

He may need a far less stressful job.

My prayers to family of the dead kid. Kids and adults make choices. He did not put the kid up to kill the other one, so there is no reason for your friend to feel sad.

just tell him to be there for the other kids and do the best the JPO can do to help.

God bless!!

Did he tell him to kill the other boy? NO then why should he feel that it is fault. The boy has a Mom and Dad it is their fault for not raising the bastard right.
