It's in a yard, and I want something to guide traffic so people are not scattered everywhere across the lawn to get to the benches. I was thinking small shepherds hooks with ribbons tied thru to kind of fence in the area (low to the ground), but I can't find them sold locally. I need help, wedding is next month.

it's an afternoon wedding so luminaries and tiki's don't make a ton of sense but would be nice. I work at a michaels and we do not sell the hooks. I like the idea of hanging flowers on the hooks. maybe rocks lining a path. I just want to make a path of some kind

look for those small decorative flag poles. They are sort of L shaped. I went to a wedding where they used these and had Styrofoam balls decorated with ribbons hanging from them. They used about a 1 inch ribbon in pinks and browns (her colors). You make a little loop or circle with the ribbon and then use a push pin to stick it into the ball. Continue til the ball is full. It was very cute and inexpensive. You should be able to find that at Michaels. You might try looking on abc or ltd dot com for the flag poles. Using some type of pole and running ribbon from pole to pole was a good idea too.

This may sound "odd", but it will do the trick...if you have a farm supply store near you check out electric fence posts. They're relatively cheap (probably cheaper than shepards hooks) and they have little 'notches' on them that will make securing your ribbons easier.
As I said, I know it sounds funny, but I grew up on a farm where we had used alot of these for their 'intended' purpose....however I'm having a backyard wedding at my parents house and this is what we're using to border out the parking area. We tried a few just to see how it works and it worked great.

i was thinking of doing something like that myself.
maybe swag the ribbons a lil low but not all the way to the ground. then hang small bunches of flowers from the hooks to dress them up a lil bit.
try to see if you have a michaels or ac moore close by... they carry them. or a store with a garden center. good luck and congrats.

We had shepard's hooks for the isleway of our wedding. Though, we hung mason jars from them with ribbon and filled the jars with roses and daisies - it looked really beautiful.
Not sure where you are located, but we actually found our shepard's hooks at a dollar store (Dollar Tree). I know the JoAnn's around us sells them as well.

You can get some plastic ones at walmart in the gardening section. They are green though but I am sure you could spray paint them. Also, you could hang little baskets of flowers off of them with the ribbon. Good luck!

if you can't find those shepherd hooks, what about tiki lamps? (for a night party) it can help keep the area well lit and you can get the lamps that shoo the bugs away.

Use white paper bags with votive candles in them. It is beautiful and something I have seen at very upscale garden weddings.

I wonder if you went to a Home Depot and walked around, you would find a hook that would work?
