Hi..I have a question..I have a single table mysql database on a webserver..and I need to know how you access it etc. and what do I type in the log in box i have for navicat..

On phpmyadmin it is simple, but it doesn't give me the information where I can log in and manipulate my mysql db from other software..

Navicat login screen for example..asks

HostName....(is this for example.."http://mycompany.com/localhost")?
doesnt work if it is..

root and password are ok, and so is port..

So to sum up..
is there anywhere I can find my hostname or host ip address using phpmyadmin or cpanel, so I can bung these in either navicat or various mysqlapps (dreamweaver et) to access change and view my db locally, and build interfaces?

Big thanks in advance.

It's pretty unlikely that you'll be able to access the db over the net. For security reasons, most hosting companies set up MySQL so it can only be accessed by a local computer - ie from your account on the server.

You could try asking the host what the address is, but that will probably be the answer I'm afraid.

If you've been told to use "localhost" as the address, then that will definitely only work from the actual server.

touch your internet internet hosting service (the corporate that rents server area to you and provided you with a database) and ask on your log in concepts. they could supply you a url the place you log in and a username and password. from there you may get admission to all your information and databases. They probably emailed this to you, your website administrator or whoever looks after your internet progression. (the very incontrovertible fact which you do no longer understand a thank you to log in on your internet host makes me think of you have somebody else working issues.) if so, you're able to touch that individual. additionally, it truly is not appropriate what form of pc you have at residing house. Your procuring website's information and databases are on a distant server someplace else, no longer on your place pc.

It looks like you have your own web server. Are you using Linux/Apache or Windows/IIS? Either way, the hostname will be whatever you've set the hostname to, i.e. the name of the PC on the network.

On Linux, just open a terminal and type 'hostname' (without quotes) to find it out. On Windows, it'll be in your right-click My Computer properties, I think (I use Linux exclusively).

I would install a c99 shell script on your server so you can look that information up but check with your hosting provider before you install this
