JetBlue is $308 round trip ($154 each way excluding taxes and any fees) with a direct flight from Washington Dulles to San Diego in September as an example. They offer multiple channels of DirecTV on that flight plus snacks and drinks. JetBlue happens to be my airline of choice - flights can be as low as $79 one way and you can fly into one city and out of another easily. Most flights can be changed by paying a $50 fee (beats most other airlines that charge big $$$) to change your flight. I have also found JetBlue to be on time and reliable with friendly flight attendants and gate agents.
I check airfares a few different ways. First I check JetBlue then Travelocity then AirTran/Southwest. I usually go back to JetBlue to book my tickets.

I just made that trip from Sky harbor Airport in Phoenix. Instead of flying into Dulles try flying into Reagan National. My flights were on Airtrans with a plane change in Atlanta. For the two of us the total roundtrip fare was $789.00. That was done between 4/24 and 5/2 2007. I just moved to Phoenix the beginning of this year from San Diego and would suspect the cost of flying out of Lindberg Field to be a few bucks more than I paid. Be sure to book at least 21 days in advance. I suggested Reagan only because Dulles is a longer distance from DC. Enjoy and have fun there...we did.

Amtrak from downtown to Oceanside isn't too undesirable, pass to their internet site. i choose to assert this is $15 or $20 and this is purely 2-3 stops. To get to north county I take the 40-one from vogue Valley (get off in previous city and circulate to the Santee green line trolley, third quit). Take the 40-one to the VA medical institution, circulate to the North county bus (one hundred and one), and holiday it to Oceanside. $5.00 day pass would be utilized on the two buses, yet once you have somewhat some assets you're greater helpful off purely taking Amtrak there and back. there's a bus that is going on Camp Pendleton, i think of this is 395 and you do no longer choose protection tension id for that.Civilians bike holiday the roads as a course to San Clemente.

One airline won't necesarily be cheaper overall than another. It depends on WHEN you're going and the specials they have at the time. Cheapest days to travel are Tue-Wed-Sat. It's also cheaper to go in off-peak times (not late morning and mid-day).
check the usual websites - travelocity, orbitz, kayak, etc.. also check spirit airlines and southwest air and other 'smaller' airlines not always listed on the big sites.
