Expenditures on fortifications are useless except where population centers are adjacent to each other. On the remainder of the border a simple fence will do to mark " the point of no return". Security would be provided most economically by electronic detection and observation with mobile SWAT like teams deployed when an intrusion was detected.

Edit: We built a fence on both sides of how many miles of interstate? It's not a big deal.

Shipping should be x-rayed like they do in ports. You would have to give plenty of warning because the radiation levels are fatal.

Most of the responses here are very interesting...and show the complete lack of geography of the world.

Fences, moats, towers, razor wire???? C'mon.... our border with Mexico is 1,950 miles long. Can't be protected by such means..impossible. And, even if it could...all someone would have to do is travel 1,951 miles and row a boat beyond the fence.

Our border with Canada is 5,522 miles long 0 the longest in the world. Can't fence that.

Even if there could be fences; what would you do with over 12,000 miles of unguarded coastline? If you add Alaska into the mix, there is over 23,000 miles of coastline. Then, of course, there is Hawaii...how due you fence an island.

There aren't going to be any fences, moats or anything else. Our border areas with Mexico is used by ranchers, cattlemen and others. People move back and forth freely.

Most of the responses here show that these people have no clue what the border looks like, it's terrain, it's use or much else.

I'll tell you how.....start cracking down on employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens. When companies here in the states start taking the fines and penalties seriously, and the companies stop hiring illegals.....you can leave the darn border wide open but no illegals are going to cross over if they have no incentive.

We are now living in the days of super-duper technology... Don't believe for one second that our government can't figure out a way for people from a third world country (that don't have the same supplies we have) can't be stopped from coming here. If other countries can do it... You better believe this rich country can!!! Don't be fooled so easily!

Furthermore... We can bring our troops home to guard our borders instead of being somewhere they are not wanted!!!

20 feet tall

800 + miles

3 layers (When Minutemen are patrolling and they see someone trying to pass the first wall, a second and third layer spaced a few hundred yards apart will make it very difficult to quickly cross over, giving Minutemen plenty of time to get there and detain them)

10 feet underground

Guard towers with armed Minutemen

Security cameras + automatic sensors charged with electricity

Take away benefits

Enforce immigration laws

Ozzie has the right idea.
We can sit in our living room and watch them openly cross the fences already in place on the news. But our Government can't stop them?
People need to think about their rights, do we continue waiting for the government to act, (HAHAHA); or is it time to consider protecting our country ourselves with a "Well armed militia."
