My in-laws have a nice little duck pond they have made behind their house and have bought 6 ducks to put out there for it. They have to pen the ducks up at night because if they don't owls from the area will chop the ducks heads off. Why? I don't know but they will, so they have to keep them caged? They are having a very hard time scaring the ducks out of the water at the end of the day to cage them up. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas to get them out and into their cage. Thanks for any answers.

Simple, provide food in the cage only, and only feed them when its time to pen them.
Have a call they use to tell them it food time, and they will come running. They can graze during the day, but will return to the pen for the bulk of their food. All animals learn really quickly when food is involved.
Also if the ducks are for eggs as well, let them out later in the morning - say 10 - 10.30 - so the eggs are laid in the coop.

They love food and treats. We had no trouble herding our ducks around as they knew we would give them good stuff to eat. They like duck chow and love stuff like feeder fish. We got minnows from the bait store and put them in a bucket of water and those ducks would just come ripping into the barn to get them. They will stay put in the water if they feel in the least threatened, so chasing will not work at all.

well ducks love bread so if i were them i would make a trail with the bread and lead the ducks to the pen. we would go to a pond to fish and the ducks would be by us. one person would have to get the bread and lead the ducks away so we could fish in peace. it worked every time. we would leave bread far away scattered on the ground so they would take a while to come back. using old bread works great.

Get a very long stick or something to that effect and sort of guide them out. If the stick alone doesn't work, tie a plastic bag to the end of it. That should pretty much do it.

Then again, I don't know how large the pond is.

Best of luck!

3 week previous ducks could never be enable onto that pond besides! they at the instant are not water evidence in the event that they at the instant are not residing with the mum and in the event that they run out of strenth earlier that get to shore they are going to drown! additionally, snapping turtles are a great predator of ducks. they are going to arise and snap onto their legs and pull them below. There was a great group of ducks who have been some residences down and each spring that they had approximately 12 toddlers. each and every of the toddlers died and so did quite the various adults because of the fact they went out onto the lake and have been given pulled below. they could desire to easily be in a kiddie pool precise now. Heck they could desire to no longer additionally be out of your place! you could desire to maintain them in the domicile till they're totally feathered and you're able to no longer enable them to out to run without your finished supervision. Hawks will swoop down for lunch and you will never see them returned.

Manufacture a giant mechanical remote control owl, then swoop down over them like you are going to chop their heads off.
