No, it means you're a prick that has to tell everyone else who does have a religion that they're stupid. That's it, that's all they do...no, really.

When you're an atheist (e before i) you are tired of this assertion. No matter how many times you explain it, theists can't grasp the concept.
No, atheism isn't a religion or a belief system. It's an admission of non-belief. The difference is huge.
-"Oh, because there are some athiests saying it's a religion,
so I was a bit confused."
Yeah, and some Christians say God hates America. Go figure. But I agree. You are confused.

An atheist does not accept the existence of God. This is primarily based in most cases on the lack of evidence supporting the existence of an all powerful super being. Atheists can be members of a religion, but atheism is not a religion in itself. Atheism is a theological position.
It should be made clear that unless you are defining faith as blind belief in something just because someone says so, that atheists show great faith in science and the ability of human beings to discover empirical evidence. You can't prove that something doesn't exist. It may just be undiscovered. You can take as an example numerous species thought extinct that later have been "rediscovered."
The burden of proof is on the person claiming existence. There has yet to be any empirical evidence of the existence of a god or gods that rule our world.

No, not necessarily. "Atheism" means nothing more than "having no belief in deity". That's ALL the word means. It is no more of a religion than "polytheism", "monotheism" or for that matter "pacifism".
Since most religions include deity, the far majority of people who identify as "atheist" do not subscribe to any particular religion either. However, there are a few religions that are non-theistic (such as Theravada Buddhism). And no, these are not "philosophies". They are religions, because they include ceremony, dogma, and answers to the big "cosmic questions". Philosophies do not necessarily provide these.
Again, theism and religion can be mutually exclusive. Likewise there are plenty of people who believe in God yet do not have a religion.

No. There are a few misuses of the word, one is capitalizing it as if it was the name of a religion, the other is using word like "an" and other words that indicate a title or classification.
A person who does not believe in God(s) is atheist.
To say *an* atheist indicates they belong to an organization which simply does not exist. If the Christians keep it up they will eventually teach the atheists to adopt an organization.

Not in the least. You think and act for yourself and follow whatever beliefs or lack there of that suit you best. Some of us are spiritual and live our lives in such away that shows this..Others don't understand the idea of anything they cannot see. In a religion everyone is governed by the same ideas. We all believe something different.

No. Atheism comes from the greek word a theos, meaning without gods. Therefore anyone who isn't part of a god-worshipping scam...I mean religion...is an atheist.
Technically anyone who doesn't believe in Zeus is an atheist.

Not very reasonable to call it 'RELIGION"... There is *NO*:
- Deity or supernatural / mystical elements at all.
- Assets or Infrastructure (buildings, land, etc.)
- Dogma, central book, guidelines, etc.
- Tithing, donating or similar support.
- Regular services, meetings or gatherings.
- Belief-set (12 letters of *non-belief* hardly counts)
- Hierarchy, Clergy or any other employees of any kind.
- Central office/body/org./group representing Atheists. Nor likely will *ever* be.
Yours is a grasping, hollow attempt to define it as a religion.
BUT IF WE ARE... I WANT TAX-EXEMPT STATUS *NOW*!
Wiktionary (2007) stated: " It’s not really a religion if there’s no god to pray to." ... Sums it up nicely, methinks.
And it's 'atheist' there, Hot Shot... * sigh * (Grade 3 spelling)

No, we are not. Here is the definition of religion:NOUN: 1a. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe. b. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
We do not believe in the supernatural. No god, no religion
