Listening to Metallica Master of Puppets and it made me wonder, Who is our true master in life?
I would say we're our own master but are we?
We depend on each other, governments, the economy and in some cases gods.

The master is the one who makes the decisions, or so influences the circumstances that his wishes are done. That being the case, everyone has their own master, whether it is themselves, a loved one, a deity, a friend, or whoever. A masterless person (and they exist) would be a person with no direction and no purpose, just doing whatever or nothing at all for no particular reason. Your question back at you: Who is YOUR master?

People and governments can and do screw me around. But as long as I hold on to who I am, I am a Free Man.

The Self is dependant on the Other for survival, but the Other can get along fine without Self. Self is dependant, but that does not mean that I, mySelf have a master or ruler.

Me. The fact that I live in a society with laws plus an unwritten "social contract" of sorts does not contradict this fact. I am my own redeemer. I am the one who ultimately makes the decisions in my life, judges right and wrong in my life, and takes the responsibility, blame, or credit for what I do.
