What I would like to know from other breeders, how accurate do you believe this is? What range have you seen?

My first litter ever was born at 59 days gestation from the first breeding and 53 days from the last... Most of mine seem to come around days 60-61 although I did have one where the dam contracted an infection go to day 67.

The reason I ask is because there are so many here who do not seem to have any notion that this is an AVERAGE.. which means it is merely the middle and they'd better be ready for pups to arrive early.

I would really love for people to answer "What range have you seen?" and "How accurate do you believe 63 days to be?" I get that its an average.. I just don't think the average joe here does.

For those of you who did not bother to actually READ the questions and droned on about averages (do you really think some of the people here breeding Muffy to Tuffy and then asking "when can I expect puppies?" have even a clue that when other people say 63 days they are giving an average) .. a big raspberry pbbbbbbbbbbbbbt. Thanks to those who seemed to get my point and actually answer "How accurate is (saying) 63 days" and what is the range you've seen?

I have only ever had one bltch to go at day 61 and all other litters were exactly day 63 from the first breeding. 63 days is accurate. History proves so but 59 to 65 days is also accurate and common.

The foster pups I have with me now were taken by c-section at 55 days because they were way too big for the mother. Long story about irrisponsible owner who dumped the dog when she found out it was pregnant) They were obviously premature. One was still born, 2 dies within 2 days 1 is hanging in there the other doing great. It's now 21 days.

I have never bred myself, but I have had many pregnant females as fosters. Most seem to go from around 60-66 days. That would make for me 63 days the average. These have all been Chihuahua's or Chihuahua mixes. Pretty much the only dogs I foster. I know it can vary a fair bit from that average though from what I see from other people.

63 days is an average one that many dogs deliver on, however whelping can occur any time from 57 - 67 days so a knowledgable breeder will be ready well in advance of the 57th day and will be keeping a watchful eye on the mom to be.

63 days is an average. A woman is pregnant for about 9 months, but some deliver early & others deliver late.

Normal blood pressure is 120/80 but every body varies.

It's just an average.

63 days is an average, just like 9 months for a person.

The average for a person ranges from 8.5 - 9.5 months with a few exceptions more or less in both directions.

I don't have figures in front of me , but I believe that small dogs take a little less and larger dogs take a little longer ... but not by much... nearly all pups look the same, regardless of ultimate size.

I have read before that it can range from 59-67 days. Just like a human female there is no definite guaranteed number of days!!!
