The Maryland State Board of Education has ruled that the right of the state supersedes the rights of parents in teaching children about homosexuality. The Board said the "right (of parents) is not absolute. It must bend to the State's duty to educate its citizens."

The ruling means that the teaching of homosexuality as an accepted and approved lifestyle in Maryland public schools can move forward. Very important! Some professionals feel that the Maryland curriculum could become the model for promoting the homosexual lifestyle in public schools across the nation.

The new policy prohibits any unfavorable view of homosexuality from being presented. A video for use with eighth-graders instructs students on how to put a condom on a pen-s.

--Looks like more reason to home school Christians. It is not the state's right to indoctrinate my children with the homosexual agenda, is it?

It is my opinion that public schools need to teach reading, writing, and arithmetic and let private schools teach religion, sexual education, ect. It is the parent's job to teach these things, in all reality.

in the founding of these United States, the original premise of the bill of right was the rights of the individual, then the rights of the individual State, and then the Unites States. this original intent, has been turned around, starting with the war between the States. and as the United State government, has usurped the powers of the State, and in return the States have usurped the power of the individual.
whereas the Laws of the Nation were designed to the benefit of the majority, we are now in a period where the laws of the Nation, and the law of the States are being made for the benefit of the minorities.
while it is necessary to protect the right of the individual, it is a abuse of power to make laws that promote the rights of the minority over the rights of the majority.
and we and the people need to start exercise our rights of the vote to remove these elected officials for office.
while we home schooled our daughter, we also sent our son to public school, and it is the responsibility of the parent to bring up a child in the way that they should go, instead of leaving the education solely the the education system.

There is no "homosexual agenda" beyond having the same rights as other citizens, as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.

I doubt very much that: "Some professionals feel that the Maryland curriculum could become the model for promoting the homosexual lifestyle in public schools across the nation." That sounds a bit too hysterical to have been said by reputable professionals.

Most homosexuals had heterosexual parents, relatives, and friends, and they weren't "indoctrinated" by the "heterosexual agenda."

There was a time in this country when public schools were segregated. Some christians fought, and even killed, to try to prevent integration. Those days are past, but the bigots keep finding new targets for their insecurities.

As I reviewed articles on the ruling, it appears that they will be teaching facts. Whether or not someone accepts a homosexual lifestyle or not, its existence is a fact. It is not promoting a lifestyle, but teaching that they are varied lifestyles that people may live.

And, people should be free to make this choice, and it is critical that we educate our children regarding sexuality, and all of the issues that it entails, including the use of condoms. When would you suggest that we begin to discuss these details?

From what I can see, the ruling is promoting tolerance and respect for the lifestyles that people choose. God expects nothing less from Christians. Furthermore, in order to participant in the class, parent permission is required. So, your right to choose whether your child attends has not been overlooked.

(PLEASE NOTE: This answer is blunt and slightly graphic, but it brings the point home in my opinion. If your gay your probably not gonna like my response. Please get over it, and be as tollerant of the opposite view point as you want us to be of yours.)

Kinda makes you wonder what they are thinking. Most state laws governing inappropriate behavior of an adult toward a what 12 or 13 year old. Now don't get me wrong I understand and am for the laws governiong sex offenders, and the rights of the state to protect minor children. However suppose we take this State version of this educational program out of the "educational venue" and put it into terms like this.

A middle aged male teaching professional wants, to take your 12 or 13 year old son and show him movies about the homosexual life style, excplicitly describe homosexual activity and then instruct them in the use of a condom.

Any way you cut it it sounds like distribution of pornographic or sexually explicit material to a minor to me. I don't care if it is in the venue of "public education" or a drab dark back alley, It's all the same to me and it's wrong. Think about it folks what is a 12 or 13 year old boy expected to do with another boy (or a man) with a condom on his genitals. Do you want your son exposed to this sort of education? I doubt it and if you do then shame on you.

Christian Parents in Maryland Public Schools should not just back away from this issue, but should fight this all the way to the Supreme Court, especially for those that can't afford Home school or private Christian school. I would also look at the school board members and look to recall any elected officals on the school board or recall or impeach and Political apointers (mayors or other city officals that are elected) of school board members.

I'm not gonna qute scripture, or preach hell fire and brimstone to you because some of you know what I'm talking about and some of you don't want to hear it. But I wonder if it is so natural for a person to be this way in gender or orientation, then why is it necessary to teach one so young that it IS normal? The fact is it is NOT NORMAL, most boys don't run arround trying to figure out how to get into the boys locker room, they (like when I was a kid as most boys did) wanted to peek in the girls locker room.

I am sorry to be so blunt, but the Gay Agenda is crossing the line in this country, and it is time we as concerned parents and Christians JUST SAID NO!!!!!!

Look out Maryland, The Lord giveth and the Lord dose indeed taketh away. You get enough angry Protestents and Catholics going on out there and well watch out.

This is a sign of the times in my opinion. Many will not agree with me, and that's fine. Children today are faced with a myriad of problems that I never had to worry about growing up. I disagree with the state overriding the views of the parents. I think we'll just have to wait for the appeal. God is Watching Us.

I believe that if sexuality issues (premarital sex, homosexuality, abortion) were not an issue, that the state would not feel the urge to supercede parental rights in raising and educating their children. Many people want to not only believe that this is perfectly well and good - but to punish those who believe differently. Teachers will be told they have to promote these things against their will..thus being fired or sued. It is a total sham and travesty.

It is not right... we live in a land that is supposed to support freedom of speech and religion... this is contrary to those beliefs. It is contrary to what people wanted when they came to America. Religious persecution...and, censorship, is becoming more and more prevalent in this society.

The secular education system would be better advised to teach proper firearm handling in the schools..

The state needs to stay out of controversial issues as such, unless they are being taught in "elective" only classes with parental consent.

The only clear option for we who are concerned,is to opt for private or home schooling. I doubt the trend will change, but will even become more open to the teaching of socially liberal issues

When public schools began teaching sex education- teen pregnancies shot up way high. They do not just teach them about safe sex-- They should be teaching abistence!! Instead they teach about birth control and hand out condoms. They figure, and I quote, "they're gonna have sex anyway- we might as well give them protection"

I think this is horrible. They do not just teach about it. They promote it as "good" when, actually the Bible calls it an "abomination."

Christian school or homeschool for my kids... When I have kids.

I absolutely agree with you. California did this a few years back where some parents sued their school because of that same reason and the court ordered that the parents had no right to dictate what was or wasn't in the curriculum the school used. Which makes you think you could homeschool but in California you can't homeschool your children unless you or your husband/wife has a teaching degree and your curriculum has to be approved by the state (which is exactly the same stuff that the schools use) and you have to register with the state and they check up on you and your family every so often.

This is what the America has to look forward too.

And Suzy B, you are wrong. It is the parent's responsibility to make sure their children are fed and clothed, when that isn't done the government doesn't step in and clothe them with skimpy clothes and rotten food.
