I'm sorry I don't have a link, but I can tell you now that is NOT normal. Panting is fine if they just finished a hard hunting session and my cats drool when I get them really, really relaxed from petting, but it's not often, and not constant. She needs to ask a vet, not amateurs on the internet, a kitty's well-being could be in the balance.

Okay, here's a link!
It could be heat exhaustion.

Well, that depends. Cats sometimes pant and drool when they are very scared. How long have you had the kitten? Is it possible he is still scared of the new surroundings?

Cats also pant and drool when they're in pain. Is that possible? Could the kitten have been injured in some way before your sister got him?

And they pant and drool when they are overheated. Even if the temperature is comfortable for you, it may be too hot for a cat. Try moving him to a cooler place.

And panting and drooling can be a sign of illness.

The bottom line is, it's not normal and you should have a vet look at him.

My little kitty pants like a dog too, when he plays hard.. I was thinking he had kitty asthma....or something I got the info below on auspet.com I don't know how to attach a link but if you put "panting kitties" in the yahoo search bar it should come up. Anyway this is what i found on that sight.

To my knowledge, what Sunset said is true. Cats pant when stressed or overheated. It helps them to cool down, just like when you watch the nature shows with lions laying around panting in the heat. My cat is a VERY active player and when she gets ahold of those little catnip mice she can go for hrs and wear herself out to the point of panting also. Your kitty sounds normal to me.

Go to pet vets online. The kitten may be too hot. Running a lot gets them hot and they cool off by panting.

I noticed my parent's cat does that when it is nervous or scared. That might be it or else it might be dehydration. I don't have a link (sorry) but the best advice I can give is to call your local vet and ask. Good luck!

I think you should bring it to the vet. If the kitten is sick, no link is going to help you and most certainly won't be able to prescribe meds.

Cats only pant when they are hot or poisoned. Is her nose hot, feel her paws. Chances are she is simply overheated. Put her in a cool room with a bowl of room temp water.

Sounds dehydrated. Give her water, and take her to the vet, she may need some water put into her with IV.
