Christians never answer this question. They will just tell you Gen. 1 is the *outline* and Gen. 2 fills in the details.
They seem to be totally unaware of the fact that the writer of Gen. 2 didn't follow the outline of Gen. 1.

Both are, if you read them carefully you'll see that each rendition makes a point that is parallel to the other. The first story is a general history of God's creation. The second story has details that relate more to man and his history with God.
It helps to understand that originally these stories were recounted verbally by a historian. Anthropologist have shown than in cultures without writing the historian is required to learn and repeat history exactly the same as the person they learned from. The historian often used marks on a staff as a reference so they would not have to start at the beginning of history each time. When the historian was recounting the general creation story, he started from the first mark. When he was recounting the story that was more associated with man he started at the second mark which included only those things about creation that pertained to the further history of man.

The Bible is the inerrant WORD OF GOD. You must know how to read the Bible to understand it. For instance when we say Eve ate of the "fruit of the tree of knowledge" we do not mean she ate of a tree in the sense that you go into into an orchard and pick a literal fruit. Often people will disguise meanings in euphamisms and analogies. Now somethings are literal. But in the creation story we understand the serpent is a spiritual being . . . but all these things are TRUE and LITERAL . .. just as the BLOOD OF THE LAMB on the door of the Hebrews is literal BLOOD OF A LAMB . .. now we know that the BLOOD OF JESUS upon the cross is THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB and is literal. So to the fact that Eve "ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge" is literal but is a disguised as a spiritual reference. It is a case of knowing how to read the Bible. this first part of Genesis is known as the Protoevangelium or "first Gospel". Therefore you can see the relevance of Genesis directly into the new testament, and particularly in the Gospels. Saint John even begins by showing JESUS was present during creation. that JESUS is the LIGHT OF THE WORLD . .. and THE WORD OF GOD . .. we understand GOD spoke and LIGHT was made by HIS WORD . .. Genesis 1:3 Â And God said: Be light made. And light was made. . .. This is TRUE . .. all the Bible as Sacred Scripture is TRUE and inerrant . .. and so too is the Cannon of the Catholic Church inerrant because of the FULLNESS OF THE TRUTH which guides us as the BODY OF CHRIST in the unity of the HOLY SPIRIT . ..

You might have a little trouble separating them. If you have access to a big Interpreters Bible, it will do the job. There are others as well. The reason I mention this is that you don't have to choose one or the other. Their approaches are different. You can see this, if you put them side by side. P's version is of course best known. I like J2.

Neither.
25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 26 Then God said, "Let us make man (Genesis 1:25-26)
7 The LORD God formed the man…The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." 19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the…But for Adam no suitable helper was found (Genesis 2:7-22)

the HOLY BIBLE is God's intructions for us on how to live a Godly life. Only God's words are correct.
A "creation" story does not exist in the Bible, only the truth of the Lord.
God bless you

I'm only aware of one, which is related in Genesis and expounded on in John. They are both correct as they are referring to the same events, and I'm unaware of any others. Are you?

I'd say neither one is right. If the bible was words from god how could there be two different versions right off the bat?
Some editor messed up big time.
