I am a reading/English teacher and I love the fact that parents do this sometimes. Doing it every time they watch something, semi-educational is overkill. Practicing their writing abilities and their comprehension strategies in all forms of media, print, video, audio, etc. is essential to full understanding of the world around us. I encourage this activity, but be observant to your child's reaction to it. If it becomes a punishment, it will hurt their view of any type of school work related to it!
Yeah for you!

I am a second grade teacher and I as much as I encourage comprehension skills, the outcome can be achieved by having a conversation with your child. I think if you want to have your child take some notes to jog their memory when they share what they've learned, great; but unless your child is layed up in bed and unable to go to school for an extended period, writing an actual report could become more of a punishment and cause your child to NOT like writing or learning in general. So proceed with caution!

I think that would be a bad idea. The kid will just get really annoyed and jot down a sentence. But maybe you could set up regular times for them to watch educational shows and write down what they learned, rather than doing it all the time.

No... let them enjoy the show. If they go to a decent school they will do plenty of writing in school. Let then enjoy learning. Perhaps watch and discuss the show with them.

No. You don't want them to still feel like they are at school when there are at home. I don't see a problem by asking them about what they watched.

hi Melissa it incredibly is an stunning question, yet interior the incorrect talk board. you could placed up it below: entertainment or Social subject concerns and that i'm particular you will get extra responses. television tries to entertain and "conflict" (college smart vs highway smart) is an uncomplicated way out for the writers.there will be people who will attempt to sell their laziness as "smart" and "cool", do no longer enable them to effect on what you do. you are the smart one.
