Has anyone ever used the SunSilk straightening products, how well do they work?

My girl friend used the stuff once when we were going out one time. It(her hair that is) really had a funny chemical like smell to it afterward that just wouldn't go away for about two days straight. It didn't hurt her scalp or hair any, yet it DID take a while to work on straightening her hair.
