Should i upgrade or stick to windows xp....

Right now I would say stick with XP for a while longer. Vista is more stable than XP looks sleeker, runs faster, is more secure and over all is simply a better operating system.

BUT

It is expensive, not very compatible with older hardware and software, a little difficult to use at first, more demanding on your system hardware, and, quite frankly, not worth the bother right now.

I upgraded my 2 year old PC about 5 months ago and had so many compatibility issues that I reformatted the drive and re-installed XP.

My advice would be to give the hardware and software vendors another 6 months to write their patches and update their drivers to make their products compatible with the new operating system. After that I would say go for it because Vista, regardless of the bad press reports, is an excellent OS.

Hope this helps,
Captain Computer

I bought a laptop with it pre-installed, I hadn't used xp for about a month until the other day to burn some data to disc. When using xp I realised how vista has loads of features that make it quicker and easier to use. If its other people saying that they have heard rumours that it doesn't work properly, that there are loads of bugs and things like that, dont let that stop you from upgrading because they obviously dont know what there doing and dont how to use computers properly. Once you've used Vista for a month or two you will wonder how you managed without the new features as I did when I used xp again, and the way I look at it is that you will probably upgrade eventually anyway so you might as well do it now instead of later

If by now you can't think of a compelling reason to upgrade you are better off sticking with XP, which will still be around for a long time, especially if your computer isn't very new and a graphics speed demon. You can get Vista when you buy your next computer. I think this is the conclusion most people are arriving at.

I bought 2 laptops recently one with xp media the other with vista premium. Vista proved to be incompatible with so much, yes it looks pretty, but capable of doing very little more than xp. I have since formatted and installed xp media on this laptop. I may reconsider in a couple of years when Microsoft have sorted the bugs.

it sounds like from what I've heard is to stick with XP for now until Vista comes out with their first Service Pack because then a lot of the bugs should be fixed. If you absolutely need to.... then upgrade.

the cons far out weigh the pros. Stick with XP until the second realise of vista.

I'll list the major pros and cons..
Pros:
-Pretty GUI (Graphical User Interface)
-ReadyBoost - using flash thumbdrives to essentially increase RAM
-Increased and easier search functionality
-DirectX 10 Support with upgraded and supported hardware
-Supposedly upgraded security

Cons:
-Lots of device drivers are not fully supported and/or released
-Vista hogs resources
-Some programs not yet compatible

Before you upgrade make sure that your PC's hardware configuration is up to date.
CPU: 2.0 GHz or duel core
Ram: 1.5 Gb or higher
Video card: 256 Mb on board memory
If you have anything less, you will be running slow and live a life of frustartion.
Vista is way awsome if your PC has the power to run it!
Good luck
